A strong car count of 24 were on hand for tonight's action showcasing the 45
years young and older division. Points leader Wiley Miller needed a decent
finish to clinch the title and shut out his chief rival, the 2001 Champion Jim
Porter.
Heat One featured three of the top five in points- Wiley Miller, Jim Porter,
and Ron Bach. Porter was able to use the low line to hold off the points
leader for the win in his First Coneso Funding #88 Stinger. Miller was second,
followed by Richard Terry and Ron Bach.
R. Dayle Henry drove the Design Consortium / Carco Engines #25 Stinger to
victory in the second heat. He finished ahead of Sammy Iaconis, John Woodward,
and Mike Cook, who is 5th in the points standings.
Heat 3 had a father-son front row with John and Curtis
Richards. John was the 2001 Co-Rookie of the Year and this year, son Curtis
leads the points for rookie honors. Curtis took the Coast Driveline / Richards
Mechanical #7C Stinger to the win ahead of a hard charging Ron Butler, Roarin'
Oren Prosser Sr., and John Richards.
At the start of the night, there was some debate on running a
Semi-Main for the VRA Seniors. The decision was made by officials to start all
24 cars in the Main. The night's invert put points leader Wiley Miller on the
pole and rival Jim Porter would start in third. With the title up for grabs-
Wiley grabbed the lead and the defending champ gave chase. Porter had some bad
luck and would later have to drop out of the race. Miller was not to be denied
on this night and drove the Roy Miller Freight Lines / Carson Valley
Incorporated #75 Stinger to victory. In doing so, he captured the 2002
Championship. Richard Terry was second, Ron Butler third, fourth went to Oren
Prosser Sr. and Ron Bach placed fifth. Curtis Richards claimed Rookie of the
Year Honors by earning enough points with a ninth place finish.
