Large crowd watched as Mike Kirby, who ran in the top four spots all race
long, took the lead from Richard Griffin late in the race when Griffin bobbled
in turn one. Rip Williams again seemed headed for victory for the second
race in a row when he had a problem in turn one (not sure of the cause) and a
subsequent visit to the turn one crashwall one lap later ended his quest for
victory. Steve Ostling had a flat tire while running second.
Had to restart at the back and came back to 9th. Rickie Gaunt flipped
after breaking a Jacob's Ladder around lap 10. He restarted at the back
and ended up 13th.
Nice passing jobs in the main included Mike English (12th to 4th), John Scott
(14th to 5th), Tony Jones (17th to 7th), Michael Hinrichsen (13th to 8th),
Lance Gremett (20th to 10th), Dan Hillberg (21st to 12th), Ronnie Clark (21st
to 15th),
Josh Wise, making his first ever Sprint Car start and substituting for the
injured Rodney Argo, made the dash and started 6th in the main. He was
running 6th when he tangled with Damion Gardner and was done for the night.
Seth Wilson, who has dominated The PAS Dwarf Car competition in 2002, made his
Sprint Car debut in a former Richard Griffin JB Chassis. Unfortunately,
he got upside down in his heat race causing heavy damage to the car.
