Larkin Leads NMMRA to Victory in the first ever USAC
sanctioned dirt race in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Albuquerque's #36L Joe
Larkin, Jr. Qualified for the pole of the 30 Lap USAC - NMMRA SHOOT-OUT
Friday, and using the low groove the NMMRA 2000 champion fought off several
challengers to get the wire to wire win over SantaFe, NM's #0 Steve Nix, El
Paso, TX's #XX Ricky Ziehl, USAC's point leader #74 Mike Boat and #16 Tom
Ball. NMMRA took three of the top five spots over the USAC invaders. Tom Ball
also set fast time to become the Track record holder at the new Hollywood
Hills Speedway. In the field of 35 Cars, Heats were won by Rick Johnson,
Charlie Davis, Brat and Ziehl. The 3 day Shoot-out goes Saturday night
to Thunder Speedway, Show Low, AZ & Sunday night on Phoenix's Manzanita's
1/2 mile oval.
Larkin looks to take his second NMMRA championship of the shortened season,
unless the fifty year old organization can add a few races at this late date.
