Mike Kirby put it all together and led from the green to the checkered to win
the Annual Salute to the Indianapolis 500 50 lap main event. While he
led all the way, Kirby had his hands full with both Rip Williams and Steve
Ostling throughout the main event. Both were able to challenge the
leader several times, but neither was able to relieve him of the lead.
Series point leader Cory Kruseman and Charlie Ekiss flipped in a crash coming
out of turn four and were done for the night. Tony Jones had a problem
in his heat race and then again in the B Main when he tangled with Danny
Sheridan and others and was done for the night. Jones, like Kruseman,
was shaken and walked to the ambulance. Ekiss was uninjured. The
only other flip of the night was Dan Hillberg in the B Main and he also walked
away from the crash.
The NAPA Auto Parts/Auto Trader Magazines SCRA Sprint Car race slated for June
1st at the Bakersfield Speedway has been canceled. SCRA's next race will
be on June 8th when Vista Paint presents them at Perris Auto Speedway.
