Lap Leaders: Rutherford 1-20
Troy Rutherford led every lap of the 20-lap main and took the checkered with nearly a half straightaway lead. Rip Williams passed
Rickie Gaunt late in the main event for second. Cory Kruseman started 13th and finished 4th. The top four are seeded directly to
Saturday’s 30-lap A main and will make up the first two rows of the JE Pistons Passing Masters Dash.
Charles Davis Jr., who started fourth in the main, tipped over in turn two on the first lap and bumped his knee. He was done for the
night, but should be back Saturday. Richard Griffin got turned around in the ensuing scramble and had to restart at the back. Only
other car not to finish the main was Greg DeCaires who had a rear suspension problem.
Glenn Crossno got upside down hard between turn three and four after contact with Keith Williamson in the C main. Crossno was
dazed, but walked to the ambulance. His car sustained heavy damage. In almost the exact same spot in heat three, Williamson
flipped hard after something broke as he entered the turn. Once again the driver was ok, but the car sustained heavy damage.
Charlie Ekiss got upside down on the same end in the B main. He walked away uninjured.
SCRA leading Rookie Driver Michael Hinrichsen had an engine problem in qualifying that put him out for the night.
Fast qualifier in the WorldCom USAC Western Midgets was Bryan Stanfill. He also won their eight-car dash. John Serale won the
first Midget heat and in a crowd pleaser, Randi Pankratz bested her Father, Wally
Pankratz, in the second heat.
Matt Hummel got upside in the first Midget heat, but walked away uninjured.
