Another incredible main event finish as Cory Kruseman caught and passed John
Scott in traffic for the lead and eventual win in a record setting green to
checkered 30 lap main event. Cory passed John at the white flag. Kruseman’s winning time of 8.31:11 bested the
record he set on February 17th by 9 seconds. Scott led the main event from
the pole position until Kruseman’s pass. Rip Williams hounded Scott for the
lead throughout much of the main event.
There was a 45-minute rain delay during qualifying.
There were several flips on the night including three that were of the
spectacular variety. The most devastating was Marc Hart in turn three in
qualifying. Hart flipped several times destroying his car and two billboards.
The force of the crash was so violent that it left one of the shocks off his
car imbedded in a remaining section of billboard.
The wild “B” main saw Lance Gremett flip several times before slamming
into
the turn one catch fence. On lap 8 of the “B” main, leader Tony Jones lost
a
wheel heading into turn one triggering a crash that involved all six of the
drivers in transfer spots (Jones, Rickie Gaunt, Bobby Graham, Troy
Rutherford, Mike English and Bryan Venard). Gaunt spectacularly flipped
halfway down the back straight. The wreckage stretched from turn two to
three-quarters of the way down the back straight. Only Rutherford and English
were able to continue. English took one of the transfers while Rutherford did
not. However, Rutherford drove Alex Grigoreas’ #84 in the main event.
Other cars to flip on the wild night included Dan Tedrick (hot laps) and
Glenn Crossno (“C” main). All of the drivers walked away from the crashes
uninjured.
In addition to Kruseman’s new 30-lap track record, Danny Sheridan
established
a new 10 lap track record (2.47:14) and Greg DeCaires set a new 8 lap track
record (2.15:46).
