David Cardey Wins 6th Feature Of
2002! Greg Bragg Clinches 3rd Straight CLS Championship! |
| San Diego, CA September 21, 2002... Each scoring heat race
wins, David Cardey and Greg Bragg each claimed victory on a near
perfect Barona Speedway Oval. David Cardey's feature victory puts
him in a tie with Greg for most wins with two races to go. Greg
Bragg's 2nd place finish was more than enough to clinch his 3rd
consecutive title. Greg Bragg won the first heat race ahead of Brent
Sexton, James Squire, Gary Sexton and Karl Benefeil. The 2nd heat
race went to Ernie Bartley. Jesse Dean, Jonny Bates, Pat Hickey and
Paul Townsend transfered. David Cardey won the 3rd heat race from
the front row ahead of Ashley Walker, Daren Hagen, Keith Janca and
Donny Gansen. Steve Cardey won the B Main from the front row ahead
of Lonnie Clabaugh and Seth Kramer. Josh Williams and Dylan Morris
made the final transfer spots.
Before the feature the Barona track prep crew laid down a near
perfect new surface. Greg Bragg and Ernie Bartley made up the front
row. The first and only caution waved before the first lap was
completed for several cars that had spun out resulting in a complete
restart. Greg Bragg took the early lead with David Cardey in 2nd.
Ernie Bartley, Brent Sexton and Jesse Dean followed. Jonny Bates
wasted no time moving into the top 5 on lap 2 while Brent Sexton
took over 3rd on lap 3. Ernie Bartley dropped off the pace as Jonny
Bates & Gary Sexton passed on lap 6. Bartley went out four laps
later with mechanical trouble. David Cardey sped by Greg Bragg for
the lead on lap 7 as Bragg negotiated a slowing car ahead. From that
point David Cardey set a very fast pace lapping traffic up to 8th
place in route to another victory! Donny Gansen was hard charger
moving up 7 to finish 8th. |
