(Perris Auto Speedway - April 6, 2002)
Greg Bragg again took the checkered flag in his heat race and the A
main to complete another perfect night at Perris Auto Speedway.
The fist heat race was won by Chris Rahe from the front row
ahead of Donny Gansen, Paul Cook and Lonnie Lopez.
The tacky surface allowed Chris to run some of the quickest
lap times ever seen in a Lightning Sprint (17.5/102.8 mph average).
For the second week in a row Steve Cardey took the checkered
flag in his heat race withstanding the pressure from some very fast
company - his cousin David Cardey.
Jeff Stiller & Steve Elliott followed closely but just
out of striking distance. The
front row of the 3rd heat race was made up of former CLS
Champions Brent Sexton & Robby Sczymczak.
Brent’s bad luck turned worse when his 3rd motor
in as many starts blew. Tyler
Brown followed Sczymczak closely to the line ahead of Keith Janca
& Josh Williams. Greg
Bragg won the fourth heat race from the 3rd row ahead of
Karl Benefeil, James Squire and Denise Cline.
Jonny Bates (Rookie) in his 3rd CLS start took a
commanding lead in the B Main until veteran Danny Swanson chased him
down & took the lead. Ashley
Walker followed. Gary
Sexton worked through the field from the back of the pack of 13 to
wrestle the final transfer spot from Jon Squire.
Chris Rahe occupied the pole position in the
A Main along side Steve Cardey.
Chris jumped out to an early lead.
Steve Cardey ran 2nd ahead of Greg Bragg and Robby
Sczymczak. Bragg took 2nd
from Cardey on lap 4. Rahe
retired on lap 5 with a mechanical problem surrendering the lead to
Greg Bragg. David
Cardey, always good on re-starts took 2nd from Steve.
Lonnie Lopez hit the k-rail exiting turn 2 and flipped hard
down the back stretch. Lonnie
was ok. Tyler Brown moved into 3rd on lap 8.
David Cardey brought the field to a stop under a red flag on
lap 14 when he flipped in turn 2. Tyler Brown would now chase Bragg on a very fast but rough
track. Keith Janca
steadily worked his way up to 4th from his 11th
starting position while Paul Cook rounded out the top 5.
The top 5 remained unchanged until the 20 lap checkered flag.
Denise Cline “Hard Charger” moved up 10 positions
finishing 6th.
