Santa Maria, CA - April 17, 2003... Rick Coffey, of Santa Maria, scored his first Century 21 Filer Realtors Late Model Stock main event victory of the season Saturday night at Santa Maria Speedway. Coffey took the lead on the first lap of the 30-lap event when point leader, and pole sitter, Steve Drake, of San Luis Obispo, broke on the back chute, ending his feature run early. Coffey's victory moved him to second in points, eleven behind Drake. Second in the event was Arroyo Grande's Devin Crockett, who won an 8-lap heat and set fast time of 14.893 seconds on the 1/3-mile oval. Donnie Hampl, of Atascadero, finished third, followed by Camarillo's Phil Barrow and Craig Gardner of Paso Robles. Lompoc's Chet Buckley won the other heat race. Tim Breshears took the point on the second lap of the 20-lap Crossroads Community Church Factory Stock main event and led three other Santa Maria drivers (Thad Bennett, Scotty Preast and Kirk Morgan) to the checkered flag. Lompoc's Matt Highland was fifth. Tom Breshears, Tim's identical twin brother, and Morgan won 8-lap heat races. California Dwarf Car Racing Association (CDCRA) Pro and Master dwarf cars joined the stock classes for the evening. Bob Brown, Jr. took the measure of the Pro class drivers with Shawn Crawford second and Eric Lopez third in their 20-lap run. Jim Scribellito and Angel Figueroa captured 8-lap heats. Randy Throne, Mike Van Acker and Dave Quigley were the top-three in the Master's 20 lap feature event. Throne and Quigley won the 8-lap heat races. Next Saturday night the 10th Annual Budweiser Danny Simkins Stock Car Memorial Western Dirt Late Model Tour comes to the Speedway. Round 1 of the California Street Stock Championship will also be on the program, along with Zeiders Farms Mini Stocks. Spectator gates will open at four. Qualifying will be at
six and racing at seven. Admission prices will be: $12.00 for adults, $10.00 for
