LAKEWOOD, CA, May 31, 2003 - Three-time, and defending, Non-Wing World
Championship (NWWC) series champion, Richard Griffin (2000-02) from Silver City,
NM, was the first driver entered for this year's NWWC tour. Slated
to begin on August 12th at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the first
race on the tour will pay $30,000 to the winner.
1999 NWWC Champion Cory Kruseman (Ventura) and 2001 USAC Champion J.J. Yeley
(Phoenix, AZ) were also among the early entries. Kruseman and Yeley, who were
SCRA rookies in 1994, will be teammates in cars owned by Winston Cup Champion
Tony Stewart.
Earlier in the week, SCRA President, and NWWC founder, Ron Shuman announced
that a race at Highland Speedway (Highland, IL) was added to the SCRA/NWWC
schedule. The August 18th date will mark the SCRA's first visit to
Highland Speedway. The only other first-time stop on this year's NWWC
schedule will occur three nights earlier (August 15th) at Farmer City Raceway
(Farmer City, IL).
Other stops on the Midwestern portion of the NWWC tour will be held at the Terre
Haute (IN) Action Track (August 14th), Tri-City Speedway, Granite City, IL
(August 16th), 67 Raceway Park, Godrey, IL (August 19th) and Lakeside Speedway,
Kansas City, KS (August 22nd - 23rd). Adding to the excitement of this
year's NWWC tour, the events at Terre Haute, Farmer City and Granite City are
co-sanctioned with USAC.
For the West Coast fans heading east for the tour, an SCRA points race has also
been scheduled for the Hollywood Hills Speedway in Albuquerque, NM.
