GRIFFIN & CHAFFIN HONORED AT SCRA BANQUET

LAS VEGAS, NV, JANUARY 18, 2003 - The 2002 NAPA / Auto Trader Magazines
Sprint Car Racing Association (SCRA) Awards Banquet was held Saturday in the
"heart of the Las Vegas Strip" at the Flamingo Hilton.
Emcee Chris Holt formally presented New Mexico's Richard Griffin with his fourth
SCRA Championship trophy in the last five years. Griffin's car owner, Ron
Chaffin, received first-place hardware for the seventh time in his eight-year
stint as an SCRA car owner. Griffin was also recognized for winning
his third consecutive Non-Wing World Championship (NWWC) title.
Tony Jones and his car owners Johnny Vermeer and Bubby Jones received second
place checks and accolades. First-year sensation Damion Gardner earned
third place money, as did Sharon Jory in the car owner category. Money and
prizes were also paid out to every team and driver finishing in the top 15 in
championship points. In all, over $80,000 in cash and prizes were
presented.
Bobby Cody officially took home Granitize Products "Rookie of the
Year" honors in the both "driver" and "owners"
categories. Rip Williams was rewarded for winning his first J.E. Pistons
"Passing Masters Dash" point title. Gardner also received an
award for having the most Sander Engineering Fast Times during the year.
Other special awards went to Jones, who had the most KSE Products
"Hard-Charger Awards" in main event competition. Mike Spencer
was named the "Most Improved Driver", Charles Davis, Jr. received the
"Hard-Luck Award", Ben Lancaster was named the "Sportsman of the
Year", and Bruce Bromme, Jr. was the "Mechanic of the Year" for
the sixth time.
