David Cardey Wins #3! |

(Perris, April 12) David Cardey & Team SADD
bouce back quickly from mechanical gremlins to win their 3rd feature in 5
starts. Thirty-one cars signed in to do battle on the half mile under
threatening skies on a night shared with the SCRA sprint cars. Donny Gansen won
the first heat race from the pole ahead of Rookie Points Leader Robert Early.
Dylan Morris was 3rd. Stan Sexton made the transfer after starting last. David
Cardey looked to have the 2nd heat race wrapped up until caution flew late in
the race. On the restart, Keith Janca (started 6th) challenged Cardey on the low
side of turns 3/4 to take the lead. Janca held on for an impressive win. Seth
Kramer and Karl Benefeil were 3rd & 4th.
Paul Townsend and Mike Barnette ran away with the third heat race with Townsend getting the win. Josh Williams and James Squire made the transfer. Brent Sexton stormed to the front to win heat race # 4 ahead of 5th place starter Jesse Dean. Pat Hickey and Ernie Bartley transfered. Gary Sexton used a rare B Main appearance to run an extra 12 laps at a blistering pace along the high groove around the big track for the win. Stuart Heilsher took second. Mel Murphy driving double duty in both the CLS & SCRA was third. Dan Lancaster was the final transferer to the main event. Donny Gansen and Keith Janca paced the field to the green flag to start the A Main on an extremely rough & rutted race surface. It was Brent Sexton from outside the 2nd row who led the first lap. Keith Janca took the lead on lap 2 while Brent Sexton drifted off the pace & went to the infield. David Cardey wasted little time moving into 2nd place by lap 3 after starting 6th. Gansen, Mike Barnette and Paul Townsend followed. Cardey's charge continued as he took the lead on lap 4. The top five remained unchanged until lap 9 when Townsend moved ahead of Barnette. Caution flew on lap 10 as Barnette spun to a stop in turn 2. Caution waved just after the restart as rain started to fall. David Cardey & Team SADD collected their 3rd win of the young season. Gary Sexton earned hard charger honors impressively moving up 9 positions in just 10 laps to finish 7th. Race Summary: HEAT RACE 1 |
