Verville wins at Show Low |

SHOW LOW, Ariz. (May 25, 2002) - Kaylene Verville of
Phoenix, Ariz. became the sixth lady driver to win a USAC feature event Saturday
night, grabbing the 30-lap USAC New Mexico/Arizona Sprint Car race at Thunder
Raceway in Show Low, Ariz. She's the first lady ever to win a USAC Sprint car
feature in the 47-year history of the club! The 37-year-old Verville led all 30 laps around the 1/4-mile dirt oval in her A & C Wrecking Shaver/Maxim to beat Ken Clark, Mike Boat, Steve Nix and Bo Baker to the checkered flag. She joins Indianapolis Speedrome Midget Series victor Bev Griffis and USAC TQ Midget Car Series winners Kara Hendrick, Amy Wilson, Randi Pankratz and Denise Bennet as USAC's only female feature winners. Verville is one of only two female drivers in the history of USAC's Silver Crown Series, having competed in the 1998 "Ted Horn 100" at the DuQuoin (Ill.) State Fairgrounds. She also had an unsuccessful attempt to qualify at the 1999 "Copper World Classic" at Phoenix. Cheryl Glass was USAC's first female Silver Crown driver, competing at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis in 1982. Mike Boat's third-place finish at Show Low extended his series point lead over Mike Martin to 33 points going into a June 8 race at Central Arizona Raceway in Casa Grande, Ariz.
