LAKEWOOD, CA, June 12, 2002 - Jack DeArmond, Sr., who raced sprint cars
with
the California Racing Association (CRA) in the 1960's and '70's passed away
Tuesday. He was 67 years old.
DeArmond began his racing career in 1961 driving Three-quarter midgets and was
a T/Q champion in 1963 driving for Dick Raine. Later on, DeArmond raced
full midgets and drove for Pop Miller until he jumped to the CRA sprint car
division in 1967.
DeArmond died as a result of a heart attack he suffered Saturday night at the
Perris Auto Speedway. Tragically, DeArmond suffered the fatal heart
attack moments after watching his son, Jack DeArmond, Jr., drive his SCRA
sprint car to a heat race victory. Funeral arrangements for DeArmond are
pending.
