Lakewood, CA., June 11 -- The NAPA Auto Parts - Auto Trader
Magazines SCRA
sprint cars series will make their first of three Santa Maria Speedway (Santa
Maria, CA) appearances this Saturday night, June 15th.
Even though he has been plagued by poor luck this year, three-time SCRA
Champion (1998-00) Richard Griffin (Silver City, NM) has to be considered the
man to beat at Santa Maria Speedway. Dating back to August of 2000,
Griffin has won three of the five Santa Maria events. Hesperia's John
Scott has won the other two.
Defending SCRA Champion Cory Kruseman (Ventura) has four SMS wins, all of
which came in 1995. Rip Williams' (Yorba Linda) has the most lifetime
SMS wins with six. Kruseman and Williams enter the event tied for most
career SCRA main event wins. Each man currently has 55 lifetime wins
with the SCRA.
Concord's Damion Gardner made the most of his eight hour tow to the Perris
Auto Speedway last Saturday. In just his 13th start, Gardner became just
the 31st different driver win an SCRA main event. Corona's Steve Ostling
finished second to Gardner to maintain his lead in the SCRA point standings.
Entering this weekend, Ostling has 766 points, Kruseman 739, Griffin
734, Tony Jones (Garden Grove) 726 and Williams 690.
