Lakewood, CA., June 3 -- The NAPA Auto Parts - Auto Trader
Magazines SCRA
sprint cars series resumes at the Perris Auto Speedway (Perris, CA) this
Saturday night, June 8th.
Torrance's Mike Kirby, who's now in his 15th year of driving sprint cars, won
the 50 lap "Salute to Indy" two weeks ago at Perris. It was
the 38th SCRA win of his career and the second victory of the season at Perris
for Kirby.
Cory Kruseman (Ventura) and Tony Jones (Garden Grove) entered that race ranked
first and second in series points. However, each ran into problems
during the night dropping Kruseman to third in the points standings and Jones
to fourth.
Corona's Steve Ostling was fourth in points prior to the main event, but
leapfrogged into the point lead for the first time in his 18 year career after
a third place finish. Like Ostling, three-time SCRA Champion (1998-00)
Richard Griffin (Silver City, NM) is still looking for his first win of the
year. Thanks to a sixth place run, Griffin now sits second in
championship points, only eleven points behind Ostling (701 to 690).
Kruseman has 681
points and Jones has 664.
Rip Williams' (Yorba Linda) finished second two weeks ago and remains tied
with Kruseman for most career SCRA main event wins. Each man currently
has 55 lifetime wins with the SCRA.
