Lakewood, CA., April 30 -- Ventura's Cory Kruseman will be
looking for his second straight Jeff Bagley Classic victory this Saturday
night, May 3rd, when the NAPA Auto Parts - Auto Trader Magazines SCRA sprint
cars series makes it's first appearance of the season at Ventura Raceway.
Kruseman, who has 54th career SCRA wins, will once again be looking to equal
Rip Williams' (Yorba Linda) all-time mark for main event wins. Last
Saturday night (April 27th) at the Perris Auto Speedway (Perris, CA),
Kruseman finished third behind race winner Rickie Gaunt (Torrance) and Steve
Ostling (Corona). Kruseman's podium run last weekend did help extend his
early point lead since his nearest competitors, Tony Jones (Garden Grove) and
Richard Griffin (Silver City, NM), each spun during the main event.
Heading into the weekend Kruseman has 476 points, Jones has 430, and Griffin
has 424.
The inaugural Jeff Bagley Classic was run last year to honor the memory of an
up-and-coming young driver who lost his life in a 1989 sprint car race at
Ascot Park (Gardena). This year's race will again start 21 cars as a
tribute to the number Bagley carried on his car. The main event will be
40 laps in duration and pay $3,500 to the winner. Jeff's parents, Paul
and Helen Bagley, have once again donated money generously to the purse for
this race.
