KNOXVILLE, IOWA (MAR. 11, 2002) - Midget car teams
with the Badger Midget Auto Racing Association (BMARA) and the Midwest Auto
Racing Association (MARA) have started getting serious about the June 1st
$4,000-to-win Pepsi/Mt. Dew Knoxville Midget Championship, as entries from
those two sanctioning groups are arriving in the track office on a daily
basis.
Among the latest entrants are Badger regulars Brandon Waelti of Sun Prairie
(Wisc.), Rick Mueller of Barneveld (Wisc.), Brian Terry of Monona (Wisc.),
and Brian Claas of Oregon (Wisc.). In addition, MARA standouts Tim
Siner of Waterloo (Ill.) and Craig Carey of Springfield (Ill.) have signaled
their intentions to compete in Knoxville's first midget car event in nearly
23 years.
Waelti has entered his Dave's Masonry/Conrad Real Estate Stealth, while
Claas will be aboard the William "Butch" Dahlke-owned
Gaerte-powered Stealth. The Iowa County Chrysler/Mt. Horeb NAPA-backed
Stealth will be wheeled by Mueller, and Terry is the pilot for the Valley
Rollers/Waterloo Auto Parts Ellis midget. Siner's Stealth/Gaerte
midget
is sponsored by Dave Sinclair Ford and Hoosier Tire Midwest. Carey's
Fontana- powered car has backing from Kinsel Engineering and Canham
Graphics.
In addition to BMARA and MARA, the North American Midget Auto Racing Series
(NAMARS) is also an official affiliate of the one-day show. Any midget
teams which meet the established rules of the event will also be welcome to
compete at the legendary Marion County Fairgrounds oval. Practice sessions
will be held on Thursday, May 30, and Friday, May 31, for the midget car
competitors.
