Phoenix, AZ (September 27) A $73,300 Sprint Car and Midget show has
been added to the schedule at Manzanita Speedway. Duel in the Desert II
has leased the track for the two day show on November 22-23. The race marks the
richest 360 Sprint Show ever run in Arizona and the Midgets will also have their
biggest purse.
Dave Ellis will be handling the promotion duties for the Kenz & Leslie/BG
Products Duel in the Desert II and is busy lining up a star studded field for
both divisions.
"We have talked to some USAC drivers as well as regulars with the SCRA,
ASCA, NEMARS, BADGER, AMRA, RMMRA and such and expect about 100 cars for
the two day show", Ellis says. "There is a lot of money up for
grabs and the season is over just about everywhere and those who want to get out
of the cold can make this a working vacation." Basic USAC rules govern the
Midgets while the 360 Non Winged Sprint cars must use an American Sprint Car
Series legal engine. Each division has a tire rule and mufflers are required.
The money he speaks of will be equally divided between the Sprints and Midgets.
Each night pays the same—$2500 to win the "A" Main and $300 to
start. Cars that start the "B" feature and fail to transfer will
pocket $125 and those that do not make it our of the "C" will be paid
$75.
In addition to Kenz & Leslie/BG Products, Ellis has lined up several
associate sponsors including Sands Chevrolet, Explorer Van Co., Phase 1 Recovery
and Ellis Racing Products. He is seeking additional sponsorships but the $73,300
purse is a guaranteed.
The Duel in the Desert II has a $100 entry fee if the entry is received prior to
November 8th. The late entry fee jumps to $200.
Entry blanks may be obtained by calling 602 278-0450 or by faxing 602 272-3550.
