By: Robert Mayson

LAKEWOOD, CA, October 15 --  Three-time Sprint Car Racing Association (SCRA) Champion Richard Griffin will resume his defense of his Non-Winged World Championship (NWWC) tile when the series picks up again on October 25th-27th for the running of the NAPA Auto Parts/Budweiser Western World Championships
at Manzanita Speedway (Phoenix, AZ).

After winning three of the six NWWC races last June in the Midwest, Griffin holds a 29 point lead over 1999 NWWC Champion Cory Kruseman.  Other SCRA regulars expected to compete are Mike Kirby, Troy Rutherford, Rickie Gaunt, Steve Ostling, Charles Davis, Jr. and Rip Williams.

Early entries from the Midwest have been received from Tony Elliott, Bill Rose, Ed Carpenter, Jr. and Jon Stanbrough.  West Coast drivers returning west for this race after following circuits back east include Jay Drake, J.J. Yeley, Jerry Coons, Jr., Bud Kaeding and Tyler Walker.

Saturday's 40 lap A Main will pay $550 to start with $12,500 going to the winner.  The NWWC season will conclude one week later after three nights of racing (Nov. 1st-3rd) at the Perris Auto Speedway (Perris, CA).
