LAKEWOOD, CA, October 15 --
Three-time Sprint Car Racing Association (SCRA) Champion Richard Griffin will
resume his defense of his Non-Winged World Championship (NWWC) tile when the
series picks up again on October 25th-27th for the running of the NAPA Auto
Parts/Budweiser Western World Championships
at Manzanita Speedway (Phoenix, AZ).
After winning three of the six NWWC races last June in the Midwest, Griffin
holds a 29 point lead over 1999 NWWC Champion Cory Kruseman. Other SCRA
regulars expected to compete are Mike Kirby, Troy Rutherford, Rickie Gaunt,
Steve Ostling, Charles Davis, Jr. and Rip Williams.
Early entries from the Midwest have been received from Tony Elliott, Bill Rose,
Ed Carpenter, Jr. and Jon Stanbrough. West Coast drivers returning west
for this race after following circuits back east include Jay Drake, J.J. Yeley,
Jerry Coons, Jr., Bud Kaeding and Tyler Walker.
Saturday's 40 lap A Main will pay $550 to start with $12,500 going to the
winner. The NWWC season will conclude one week later after three nights of
racing (Nov. 1st-3rd) at the Perris Auto Speedway (Perris, CA).
