Perris, CA., Jun. 21 - Scott Hansen, the versatile USAC Western States
Sprint Car and Midget owner/driver from Simi Valley, stepped into a
Greg Edenholm-owned TQ Midget Saturday at Perris Auto Speedway and
won the 20-lap feature. He led all 20 laps. It was his first NMRA-TQ
Midget feature victory and the first appearance of NMRA at Perris.
Hansen, 39, won the 1995 USAC TQ Midget Division
championship and moved
on to prominence in the USAC W/S Midget and 360 cubic inch Sprint
Car Divisions. He won 1996 USAC W/S Midget rookie of the year honors
and was voted most improved USAC W/S Sprint Car driver last year
when he won a main event and placed second in final point standings.
Hansen, who jumped from 11th to seventh in
current NMRA driver points, drove a Dennis Hart chassis with
Hart/Honda power. Jimmy May drove the same car to victory earlier
this season at Ventura Raceway. The winning Edenholm No. 2x car
moved into a second place tie in 2003 car owner points. Hansen
became the fourth different winner in five NMRA races this season.
He also became the ninth winner in 13 races since NMRA resumed
racing in 2002 after turning over TQ racing to USAC from 1987-2001.
Chuck West, NMRA's 2002 champion, finished second
at Perris. Ron Wade, Chris Hedge, Walt Johnson, Jake May, Kenny
Wiley, Steve Parke, Michael Bliffen and Dennis Hart, in a second
Edenholm car, completed the top ten in a 14-car field. West and
Hansen won a pair of eight lap heat races. NMRA will return to
Perris Saturday, July 5 for round six of the season.
