Bakersfield, CA, Aug. 16 - Jimmy May, of Ventura, won his sixth
NMRA-TQ Midget 20-lap feature of the nine-race season and fourth in
a row Saturday night at the third-mile clay Bakersfield Speedway. It
was the first NMRA appearance of three scheduled this season at the
Kern County oval. The next two races at Bakersfield Speedway will be
held on September 6 and 27.
May led all 20-laps and again drove one of the
Hart chassis/Hart-Honda powered cars owned by former TQ driver Greg
Edenholm, of Agoura. Edenholm's cars have won seven of the nine main
events this season. May, who was absent from two races earlier this
year, jumped from seventh to fourth in 2003 driver
points with his latest victory. He now trails
point leader Steve Lambert by 52 points.
Scott Hansen, in the other Edenholm
Hart/Hart-Honda, finished second to go along with his victory at
Perris June 21. Point leader Lambert drove his brother's TQ to third
place and increased his point lead from four to nine over 2002 NMRA
champion Chuck West--the fifth finisher. Walt Johnson placed fourth
in Guy Barber's 2002 NMRA championship car.
Rounding out the top ten in an 11-car field were
Kenny Wiley, Ron Wade, Michael Bliffen, West Evans and Steve Parke.
Jody Bandfield was 11th. Hansen and West won a pair of eight-lap
heat races.
