The biggest Non Wing Sprint Car race of the season is three weeks away.
On November 1st, 2nd and 3rd, Perris
Auto Speedway will play host to the 6th Annual Budweiser/Temecula
Valley Pipe and Supply Oval Nationals. For
the second consecutive year, the race will pay a whopping $25,000.00 to the
winner of Saturday’s 50-lap A main. That
is the largest first place prize in Non Wing Sprint Car Racing. What will it take to pocket the twenty-five grand?
A 100% effort that will start as soon as each competitor unloads his car
in The PAS pit area. Don Kazarian,
President of Oval Entertainment, has laid out a format that dictates each driver
will have to run his hardest from the time he takes his first green flag in
qualifying. Thus, it will produce
three nights of the best Non Wing Sprint Car Racing on the finest dirt track
racing facility in the world. Want
to know what the format of this great race will be?
Read on, as we are going to spell it out for you for a 60-80-car field.
The field will be split into two equal number groups for the Thursday and
Friday preliminaries. Once a driver
has taken a green to qualify on Thursday, that car is locked into that night’s
program and the driver will not be able to scratch and re-enter Friday.
There will be four, ten lap heat races with a maximum of ten cars in each
on Thursday and Friday. The first
four rows of each heat will be inverted. The
top four finishers from each heat transfer to the Twin Twenty lap mains. Cars finishing 5th through 8th go to
the B main. Cars finishing 9th
and 10th in the heats will go to Saturday’s Last Chance Race.
The preliminary night B mains will be 15 laps with the cars finishing 5th
through 8th in the heat races. The
lineup up will be straight up (fastest in the front) by qualifying times.
The top six finishers from each night’s B main will go to the Twin
Twenties. Cars finishing seventh
and back will go to Saturday’s D, C or B Mains based on qualifying times.
The first of the Twin Twenties will be lined up straight up by qualifying
times. The second Twin Twenty will
be completely inverted by the way they finish the first twenty.
The winner of the first one will start dead last (In one of the most
exciting nights of racing at The PAS, Rip Williams won the first Twin Twenty
from the front row at the inaugural Oval Nationals in 1996.
He started dead last in the second one and weaved his way through the
traffic for an amazing win). First
place in each Twin Twenty will pay 22 points.
Each place behind will receive one less point all the way back to one
point for last. The top five in
points from each night’s Twin Twenties will go straight to Saturday’s
$25,000.00 to win A main. In the
case of a tie for fifth place in points, the tie will be broken based on
qualifying times.
For Saturday, cars that finished 9th and 10th in
the heats and the cars that qualified for Saturday’s A main from the Twin
Twenties, will be removed from the master qualifying list.
All remaining cars will be ranked fastest to slowest for the B, C and D
mains.
The first race Saturday will be the 12-lap Last Chance race for all cars
finishing 9th & 10th in Thursday and Friday’s heats.
Thursday night’s cars will be on the inside and the Friday will be on
the outside. They will be lined
straight up by qualifying times. The
top four finishers transfer to the back of the D Main.
The “D” Main will have twenty cars.
The first eight rows will be straight up with the 32nd fastest
qualifier on the pole back to the 48th fastest qualifier.
Rows nine and ten will be made up of the cars that transferred out of the
Last Chance race and they will start straight up by their finishing order. The D main will be 15 laps and the top six will transfer to
the back of the C main.
Saturday’s C main will have twenty cars and will be 20 laps.
The first seven rows will be straight up starting with the 17th
fastest qualifier back through the 31st. Rows
8, 9 and 10 will be comprised of cars transferring from the D main and they will
line up straight up according to the way they finished. The top eight finishers will go to Saturday’s B main.
Saturday’s B main will be the final chance for any cars to get into the
$25,000.00 to win 50-lap A main. It
will be comprised of 24 cars and will be 20 laps.
The first 8 rows will be straight up with the fastest qualifier on the
pole back through 16th. Rows
nine through 12 will be the cars that transferred from the C main and they will
start straight up according to the way they finished the C.
The top fourteen (14) cars will transfer to the back of the A main.
The A main will have 24 cars and will be 50 laps.
The first five rows will be made up of the ten cars that transferred from
Thursday and Friday’s Twin Twenties. Thursday’s
cars will be on the inside row and Friday’s on the outside.
They will be inverted with the fastest cars starting in the fifth row.
The fifth fastest will start on row one.
Rows 6-12 will be made up of the 14 cars that transferred from the B main
and they will be lined straight up according to the way they finished the B.
Yellow flag laps will not count. Should
the A main have more than 20 laps under yellow, the race will be red flagged and
only fuel may be added. Any car
that is modified in any way on a red flag for fuel will be sent to the rear.
Three day passes (a $54.00 value) are on sale now for $45.00.
You can purchase them at the south souvenir stand during race nights at
The PAS or by calling (909) 940-0134.
