A few weeks ago PAS fans, drivers, crews and officials stepped
up in a big way to help injured driver “Big George” Gervais. How
big you ask? Over $8,200.00 was
raised in one night. Thank you
very, very much… By the way, if you did not get to donate or you would like to
donate more, there is a recovery fund set up for George at: George
Gervais Recovery Fund, Big George Gervais, Temecula Valley Bank, 41500 Ivy
Street, Murrieta, CA 92562
(909) 461-0411… All of the PAS
sponsors got together and came up with a racing getaway vacation for a lucky fan and all the monies would go to
George Gervais. The getaway
includes tickets for the October 25 – 27 Non Wing World Championship race at
Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Arizona. Tickets
for the NASCAR Winston Cup race at Phoenix International
Raceway on October 28th along with air fare, hotel accommodations and a rental car.
Wow, what a deal! How can
you enter to win this fabulous racing trip?
Go down to south souvenir stand at The PAS this Saturday or
Sunday night (September 1st or 2nd) and buy tickets for $1.00 each. The
winning ticket will be pulled this Sunday night, September 2.
Winner must be present to win…
There
will be two nights of racing at The PAS on Labor Day Weekend.
On Saturday September 1st, the Ramona Tire PASSCAR Stock Cars, California Champ Trucks
and Pick-A-Part Cruisers will supply the action. On Sunday September
2nd, the SCRA Sprint Cars will return to their home track for a night
of thrilling racing capped by a 50-lap main event…
Here is a bit of racing trivia for you.
What does the name “Insurance Auto Auctions” have to do with Sprint Car racing?
Give up? That is the
business that now occupies the former sight of Ascot Park in Gardena.
A cement block wall now encloses the entire property.
The sight of the old drive-in theatre just up the block is now occupied by apartments…
Just a few weeks ago, talented Danny Sheridan was hotter than a firecracker contending for main event wins,
but he then hit a streak of bad luck getting upside down three shows in a row…
Sources say NARC will be back next year and stronger than ever.
This year the only two NARC Races are a $20,000.00 total purse event the
night after Thanksgiving at the Thunderbowl in Tulare and a $40,000.00 race the next evening at Bakersfield
Speedway. I made the Tulare race
last year and it was a great show with around 50 cars…
Spotted an interesting comment on a Sprint Car message board a couple weeks ago. The
poster adamantly saying Sprint Cars are no safer than they were 20 years ago.
Huh? Just off the top of my head comparing Sprint Cars now to those of 20
years ago you will find more engineered parts in today’s models as well as safer seats, cage nets, better belts
(safety belts), down tubes etc. That
equals a safer racecar. Having said that,
no driver or car owner should ever skimp on safety.
However, racing is a dangerous sport and it always will be. No
matter how safe the cars are made, the possibility of injuries and fatalities
will always exist in all forms of racing…
One
of the first out of town drivers with intentions of heading to the PAS for
November’s $25,000.00 to win Budweiser/Temecula Valley Pipe and
Supply Oval Nationals is Golden State Challenge Series star Eric Rossi…
TNN
is now showing its World of Outlaws telecasts on tape delay.
Is this due to them finally realizing race fans that most likely tune in are at the
racetrack on Saturday night or do other shows draw better numbers? Obviously
the latter. While all of us love
and enjoy Sprint Car racing, a minute percentage of the country even knows what a Sprint Car happens to be…
Congratulations to Kent & Julie Shockley, the couple that was married at The PAS before an SCRA race a few
years back. A week and a half ago
they became the proud parents of their first child, a son named Dalton
Lane Shockley. Kent already has
plans and is calling his son Dalton “Fast Lane” Shockley…
Drivers young in experience in Sprint Cars have been tearing up some equipment lately. Most
notable, two big errors on the first lap of recent races here at The PAS.
It doesn’t pay to lead or be in a transfer spot on the first lap of a
preliminary main or heat race. Patience
guys, patience…
