Cory Kruseman is having
a great year. He is first in SCRA
points, has more wins than any SCRA driver and was voted number one in the first
Non Wing National Sprint Car poll of the year.
However, the best thing to happen to him this year was when he and his
lovely wife Carri became the proud parents of Casie Leeann on
10:49 PM on June 26th…
Familiar competitor in the recent Flat Track Motorcycle race at The PAS
was Carl Shockley. Shockley raced
with CRA a decade ago… As
in all sports, there are many unsung heroes in racing.
Among my biggest heroes in Sprint Car racing at the present time is Lance
& Lori Jennings. Their SCRAfan.com web page is among the best.
They put in a lot of time and money (phone bill) to make sure everyone
had up to the minute details on the recent Non Wing World Champion tour.
Making money? None at all! It is a labor of love and they devote countless hours to
bringing news, information and enjoyment to thousands of fans. Look it up at www.scrafan.com.
Next time you see them, be sure to give them a well deserved thank you…
Special thanks to KATY Radio for supplying 500 free cameras for fans on
Fan Appreciation Night at Perris Auto Speedway and to all of the sponsors who
donated gifts to be given away… No
respect? When Troy Rutherford won
the final race on the NWWC tour, National Speedsport News ran a photo of him.
Only problem was the photo they used was of Mexican National Champion
Steve Ostling… While on the
subject of Troy Rutherford, he wowed the fans by setting fast time over a
stellar field at the Jack Hewitt Non Wing Classic at Ohio’s Fremont Raceway
after the NWWC Midwest swing. Rutherford
then had a flat tire in the main. Richard “The Gassman” Griffin finished fourth that night.
Last stop in the Midwest, Rutherford finished second in the main at
Kokomo Speedway behind local hero Tony Elliott…
Thanks to John Scott, Marc Hart, Rodney Argo, Steve Ostling, Mel Murphy,
Verne Sweeney, John Franklin, Jeremy Ellertson, Dan Hillberg
and Adam Mitchell (if I missed any drivers who were there, I apologize,
and thank you as well) for coming out front and spending some time with the
Perris Auto Speedway fans before the July 4th races.
Their participation was noted and appreciated by the fans…
Early arrivals at The PAS on July 14th
noticed a change in The PAS Twilight Happy Hour.
They still received $2.00 off each adult General Admission ticket, two
for the price of one Hoffy Hot Dogs & Pepsi’s and half off on Budweiser
Beer, but the half off on the parking is no longer in effect.
Before anyone gets upset with the management of The PAS, please note that
it has nothing to do with them. The
parking fees are set and charged by the Fair Board.
Fair management agreed to participate in the Twilight Happy Hour with
half off parking, but after a few weeks changed their mind… Good news for a nice guy.
Davey Jones, brother of SCRA driver Tony Jones, is the new Crew Chief for
rising USAC Sprint Car star Bud Kaeding...
Speaking of Crew Chief, I have never heard one person say a bad word
about legendary Ray Sheetz. Sheetz,
who has worked for the likes of A.J. Foyt, Alex Morales and Gas Chem Sprint Car
team, is one of the key ingredients to making The PAS run as smoothly as it does
every week. If you see Ray in the
pits, stop and shake his hand. You
will be meeting a true legend in the sport of Sprint Car Racing… Jeremy “The
Bear” Ellertson has a web page at www.efmotorsports.web.com…
Sprint Cars get upside down. In
fact they get upside down a lot, but how many times have you seen a Dwarf Car
flip? In all my years in racing,
the answer was none until the recent Dwarf Nationals at The PAS.
During that show, no less than five of the tiny racers got upside down!
Could the $2,500.00 to win have had anything to do with it?
I think so. Amazingly, those
diminutive cars only way about 125-175 pounds less than an SCRA Sprint Car…
