Perris Auto Speedway
has announced a “Happy Hour” for the months June and July.
Between 5:00 and 6:00 PM, fans will receive half price parking, $2.00 off
the price of every adult general admission ticket, half price beer, two hot dogs
for the price of one and two Pepsi’s for the price of one.
These prices will be in effect at every event with the exception of July
4th. The reduced prices
will come in handy with the escalating costs of gasoline and the current energy
crisis in California… Be sure to
get your hands on the May issue of “Flat Out Illustrated.”
The feature story is on the racing Jones family – Bubby, Tony and Davey.
Southern California journalist Norm Bogan did a superb job on this fine
piece… Speaking of the May
“Flat Out,” you can read a nice technical piece by Alex Grigoreas…
All kids 12 and under will receive free admission to The PAS throughout
the month of June when accompanied by an adult… SCRA drivers did well in the
Spring National Non Wing Sprint Car Poll. Cory
Kruseman was voted number one with Richard Griffin second and Tony Jones third.
Derek Davidson was fourth with Pace Motorsports shoe John Scott fifth.
Other West Coast drivers in the top 20 were: 7. Jay Drake, 8. J.J. Yeley,
10. Rip Williams, 12. Bud Kaeding, 13. Troy Rutherford, 14. Troy Cline, 16th
(tied) Rickie Gaunt & Steve Ostling, 19th Randy Bauer.
Bob Ream Jr., Jeremy Sherman and Mike Kirby also received votes…
After Cory Kruseman won at The PAS a couple weeks back, he mentioned a
rumor that he was supposed to be at the Brickyard that day and that maybe it
could happen if he could afford it some day in the future.
That, my friends, is a shame. Thirty
years ago, Kruseman, Griffin, Jones and Williams would have been there because
they could chauffeur a racecar. That
doesn’t matter today as the size of the wallet is more significant than a
drivers on track ability… USAC
has entered the world of Quarter-Midget racing.
They will oversee Quarter-Midget racing around the country.
In my opinion, Quarter-Midget racing is, for the most part, great.
However, the over spending ($9,000.00 for some engines) and the
occasional “Little League Parent Syndrome” can be quite annoying.
Lets hope USAC keeps the playing field level for everyone and not let it
get more out of control as they have in their Midget Racing series’…
There was a Red Racer in The PAS office three weeks ago Thursday.
No, Richard Griffin was not in town early.
This was a five-foot Red Racer snake!
It blazed into the office and, shall we say, it left one of The PAS
employees anything but speechless!!! Last
time we were here, we told you of Will “The Thrill” Perkins hanging up his
helmet after a wicked flip down The PAS back chute during a recent Tuesday night
practice. The retirement lasted
less than three weeks. Perkins is running with the 360s at Ventura before returning
to SCRA in 2002. I wonder if he got
back the Nomex underwear, socks and racing shoes he gave away when he retired???
Don’t forget to listen to the Speed Freaks Sunday on 97.1 KLSX from
7:00 – 9:00 PM… Steve Hardin
has a great new CD Rom filled with a few thousand open wheel photos from the
Midwest and East. Not only are cars
featured, but he also has virtual tours of 17 racetracks.
The price is only $15.00 + $2.00 shipping.
To order yours, call Hardin at (630) 623-5352 or E-mail him at everclear@attglobal.net…
Two weeks ago at the SCRA race at The PAS, Alex Grigoreas broke a crank
while battling with Mike Kirby for a top five spot in the main.
The engine in the Grigoreas car was previously in one of Kirby’s
cars… We sometimes have fun with a fan who shows up wearing a suit and tie.
Know what? He is a Sprint
Car driver! Preiss Movius took Cory
Kruseman’s school a couple times last year and bought a 360 Sprint Car over
the winter to race in the Veteran Class at Ventura.
In his second outing he went from eighth to third in his heat and
finished fifth in the main. Oh
yeah, you may be wondering why he wears a suit to the races.
He is coming to the track from church…
The week after Robby Flock won the WorldCom USAC Western State Midget
main at The PAS, he also won at Hanford. That
gave him three straight wins (the week before The PAS event, he won at
Bakersfield Speedway)… Unfortunately
rumors proved to be accurate. After
SCRA’s May 12th race at The PAS “Super” Rickie Gaunt and
Gardner Motorsports parted company after a successful run that included a
triumph in the 1999 Oval Nationals. Gaunt
is now in a team car to Mike Kirby...
