We are pleased to announce that the brand new
Perris Auto Speedway web site is finally up and running.
You can find it at www.perrisautospeedway.com…
While on the topic of web sites, watch these spaces next time as we
should have addresses to numerous SCRA driver sites…
The new SCRA yearbook is out and it is a hit.
It is packed full of impressive photos, stories and statistics on the
2000 season. Best of all, it is
only $13.00 including postage. You
can get your copy by sending payment to: Sprint Car Racing Association, P.O. Box
50937, Phoenix, AZ 85076. If you would like to join SCRA as an Associate Member it is
only $30.00. You get a bi-monthly newsletter, SCRA decal, T-shirt and logo
patch. Note that this level of
membership does not include pit passes or voting rights.
Write to the same address for an application or print one from the SCRA
web site at: www.scra.com… For those of you who stayed away due to the weather or those
of you who departed early for the same motive when visited The PAS on March
10th, you missed a memorable main event. John
Scott, who looks better and better with each race, led most of the way while
fighting off legendary Rip Williams. Scott
actually led until two things occurred simultaneously.
The white flag flew and Cory Kruseman caught him in traffic.
Kruseman got by Scott and only led one circuit, but it was the one that
pays the most money. Scott looked
good in holding off Williams, but there was no holding back The Kruser…
No less than five drivers got upside down on the wet, chilly night.
Every one of them was a violent tumble.
Marc Hart had the wildest ride when he tore his car apart and destroyed a
pair of the billboards in turn three in a terrifying crash.
How hard was Hart’s ride you ask?
When all was said and done, one of his shocks was impaled in one of the
surviving billboard panels! Lance
Gremett got major air in turn one in another wild one later in the night and
“Super” Rickie Gaunt – who has had lots of luck this year, but it has all
been bad – flipped down the back straight in an out of the ordinary crash that
involved only the six cars in the transfer spots during the “B” main.
That one started when leader Tony Jones lost a wheel due to a part
failure. Others to make the upside
down honor roll on the night were second generation driver Glenn Crossno, who
punched a hole in a turn two billboard, and Dan Tedrick who flipped in hot laps.
Competition for the Wagsbucks was vigorous to say the least.
Amazingly all of the drivers walked away unhurt...
You also missed the excellent Chris Holt interview with legendary Evelyn
Pratt… If you ever want to see
what a professional Sprint Car team is supposed to look like, take a gander at
the John Scott/Pace Electronics Motorsports team…
Greg Taylor, the teenager who has looked so good with his 360 Sprint Car
while running against SCRA this year, won the season opening VRA Sprint Car main
event at the Ventura Raceway a few of weeks back…
Rumors abound that fearless Austin Kreider has been behind the wheel of a
Dwarf Car… Detroit native Jack Keene, a former SCRA driver and now Alex
Grigoreas car owner, may be back behind the wheel of an SCRA Sprint Car before
long. Keene raced Speed Trucks at
Irwindale Speedway last year. He recently sold his truck and got off the asphalt as he
looks to get back on the dirt. He
has an unassembled J&J Chassis that was purchased from Cary Faas.
He also has his eyes on a new Victory Chassis (you will read more about
them later in this piece)… Tickets
for the July 4th SCRA and Fireworks show are on sale now.
The July 4th extravaganza sells out every year.
Don’t be left on the outside for that one.
To order advance tickets call The PAS office at (909) 940-0134…
Richard Griffin bagged his first SCRA win of the three weeks ago at
Manzanita Speedway. However, his
recent string of bad luck struck again the next night when he crashed out on the
first lap of the Gary Sokola Memorial… Tony
Jones - the guy who said he stepped on something the last time SCRA was at The
PAS - won the Sokola Classic. Bubby
Jones, Tony’s daddy, raced for years with CRA while Sokola was at the controls
of the organization… Now
for the “Scum Bag (s) of the Week” report.
While the races were going on at Manzanita, thieves broke into trailers
and tow rigs pilfering personal property and vehicle parts from the some of the
competing SCRA teams... The Monday
after Manzanita, Rodney Argo and Crew Chief Davey Jones parted ways after a
bumpy start to the 2001 season. The talented Jones will end up with another
team. The equally gifted Argo, a
former Oval Nationals champion, will turn his season around soon…
Sad to report that former CRA owner & driver Dick “George” Wells
passed away in January. Our condolences go out to his family and friends… The new
Victory Chassis is on the track. Will
“The Thrill” Perkins debuted the first one and Lance Gremett will be in one
soon. Victory Race Cars are well
known in Drag Racing. Proprietor
Ron Williams is now getting into the Sprint Car business at his Corona shop.
If that name sounds familiar, Williams is the driver who had the
frightening crash in turns three and four during a Bandit (360 Sprint Car) race
at The PAS last year… Hey, the SCRA Sprint Cars are at The PAS on this Saturday,
April 7th. Hope you will
be, too… To keep abreast of all
the action at The PAS, call the PAS Hotline at 1-800-976-RACE…
