Next
Time Temecula Valley Pipe and Supply and Vista Paint present the
NAPA Auto Parts/Auto Trader Magazine SCRA Sprint Cars at The PAS,
they will be a part of a great doubleheader with the VRA Sprint
Cars. Look for 80 or more Sprint Cars to be on hand. Date for that show is March 1st…
Unbelievable!
Congratulations to The PAS’ own Chris Holt and his new bride Linda
Simpson who were married in Las Vegas while there for the SCRA
banquet three weeks ago…
Speaking
of Chris Holt, thanks to him I attended the CRA reunion in Buena
Park on January 11th. First time I ever attended
the event, but certainly not the last with the CRA legends (drivers,
officials, photographers, announcers and more) from years ago on
hand to swap stories and lies. Make your plans now to attend next
years gathering. It was put on by Walt James…
Former
SCRA Rookie of the Year Hank Winter had a great first season in the
Super Late Model division at Tucson Raceway Park. Winter started 20 main events and placed in the top ten 15
times including 3 top fives. When the season ended, he was
fifth overall in points…
Biggest
news on the local front over the winter had longtime car owner
Harlan Willis and star driver Cory Kruseman parting ways. Now
in the seat of Willis’ famous black #45 will be Damion Gardner.
Kruseman was slated to drive full-time in USAC with the Bill Bidle
team, but about a month ago, he received an offer to drive for
NASCAR Winston Cup Champion Tony Stewart. Who in their right
mind would turn that down? Kruseman accepted the ride and that
is where he will be most of the year. He will still live in Ventura and conduct his Sprint Car
Driving School at the Ventura Raceway. By the way, word has it
that Kruseman, who won some races down under in a Midget over the
past month, will be driving for Cory Witherall in SCRA when he has
off days from USAC… In addition to Kruseman, Stewart will
also field a car for J.J. Yeley on the USAC circuit…
www.diecastgarage.com
and www.hoseheads.com are sponsoring the new PAS 15 Second Club
billboard in turn 2. Every time someone breaks the existing
non-wing Sprint Car record they will pay $100.00…
Best
dressed Person at the SCRA Awards Banquet had to be “Super
Rickie” Gaunt. Where does he find that stuff???
Mike
Kirby recently ran some Late Model races in Arizona. As this
piece went to press, he still did not have a full-time SCRA ride
lined up for this year. Word has it he kept one of the cars
from last years Geurin Motorsports team and rumor is another SCRA
driver may be putting a car together for him...
Bryan
Stanfill will be at the wheel of Ben Lancaster’s #14 this year.
Bryan is a longtime competitor with the USAC Midgets and TQ’s.
He impressed everyone with a run for Glenn Crossno at the end of
2001…
Best
wishes for a speedy recovery go out to longtime Southern California
Sprint Car Official and very nice guy Ed Hudson who had triple
bypass surgery last Wednesday…
If
you are a fan of Mike English, be sure to contact veteran Sprint Car
photographer Stan Hansen. He has a great shot of English that
won “Photo of the Year” in 2002. Would be a great photo to
get autographed…
Interested
spectator at The PAS Sprint Car practice on Tuesday February 4th
was John Scott. The multi-time SCRA main event winner is
moving his racing operation to Pittsboro, Indiana and will be racing
with USAC this season. Scott bought three new Maxims to run on
the dirt and has new pavement cars, too. On order at the present time are Silver Crown Cars that may
be ready for the second half of the 2003 campaign and it looks like
sponsor Pace Motorsports may add an Infiniti Pro Series car to the
stable…
Be
sure to talk with Tony Jones about getting a ride in his two-seater
Sprint Car. Would make a great gift for any Sprint Car fan…
Don’t
forget, the O’Reilly World of Outlaws will be making their only
Southern California appearance of 2003 at The PAS this Saturday
night February 22nd. Tickets are on sale by calling
1-800-595-4849. You can also order them from the Perris Auto
Speedway website at www.perrisautospeedway.com…
