Vista
Paint will next present the NAPA Auto Parts/Auto Trader Magazines
SCRA Sprint Cars at The PAS on June 22nd.
Joining them will be the California Champ Trucks…
June
is “Kid’s Month” at The PAS and all kids 12 and under will be
admitted free every Saturday night throughout the month…
What a
difference a few hours can make.
When SCRA was at The PAS three weeks ago, Tony Jones came
into the night 9 points behind series point leader Cory Kruseman.
Following qualifying, the Garden Grove star had pulled within
2 points of Kruseman, but by the end of the night, he was 35-points
behind the point leader and Kruseman was 20-points behind the point
leader! In a massive
shakeup in the standings, Steve Ostling took over the point lead
jumping from fourth to first. Richard
Griffin moved up to the second spot. For the record, the top four looks like this: 1. Ostling
(701), 2. Griffin (690), 3. Kruseman (681), 4. Jones (664)…
By
the way, Ostling gave car owner “Biker Bruce” Fisher a great
birthday present by putting him in the points lead for the very
first time…
Remember
the yellow flag with a lap or two to go due to debris (a wheel
cover) in the SCRA main event at The PAS on May 18th?
I have heard from some people that SCRA did that to benefit a
certain driver. Funny
though, none of them agreed on which driver.
Furthermore, all of their choices of the beneficiary driver
happened to be a driver that particular person care for.
GIVE ME A BREAK! There
was debris on the track and SCRA made a judgment to throw the yellow
due to safety. The
yellow was not thrown to help out any particular driver…
This
Saturday night (June 15th), The PAS plays host to a giant
quadruple header program that includes Figure 8’s, a Demolition
Derby, Pick-A-Part Cruisers, Temecula Valley Mitsubishi Super Stocks
and Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply Street Stocks.
Added to the program will be the Hoffy 100 Hot Dog Race and
an Australian Pursuit race…
Cory
Kruseman was set to take a red eye flight after thePAS
main event a few weeks ago to race at Eldora in the USAC
Stoops Freightliner Series the next evening.
However, his nasty flip in the main event forced him to
cancel that plan. Dean
Franklin subbed for Kruseman, but failed to make the main event.
J.J. Yeley bagged the win and SCRA regular Jeremy Sherman,
driving for Keith Kunz, finished 14th…
Sad to
hear and hope it is not true for a long time, but talented, longtime
photographer Stan Hansen has hung up his camera.
Stan is truly in love with sprint car racing and hopefully he
will not be gone for long…
Belated
Happy Birthday to Ken Wagner. Wags
celebrated his birthday at The PAS on May 25th…
Kaylene
Verville led all 30 laps to win the USAC New Mexico/Arizona Regional
Sprint Car Series main event at Thunder Raceway in Show Low, Arizona
a couple of weeks ago. She
won a Bandit 360 heat at The PAS a few years back.
Mike Boat, a past main event winner with SCRA, finished
third…
Tony
Jones is building a 2-seater sprint car and will have it available
for rides on PAS Practice nights or on some Sunday afternoons.
Cory Kruseman already has one and may be on the track at the
same time to give passengers a real racing experience.
For information on taking a ride, see Tony or Cory some night
in the pits after the races …
Motorcycle
fans listen up. Gene
Romero’s AMA sanctioned West Coast Flat Track Series will be at
The PAS for a TT Race on June 29th.
It will be the first TT in this track’s history…
It
was good to see Greg DeCaires back at The PAS the last two SCRA
races in Linda Lancaster’s #14. DeCaires is leading the points in the 360 Winged Sprint Car
Series at Placerville in Northern California…
I am
very impressed with Gary W. Howard thus far in 2002.
With a little better luck, he would easily be in the top 10
in points. For that
matter, any amount of good luck would be welcome…
Nice guy Dan Hillberg looked like he lost a fight to Mike
Tyson with after his flip two weeks ago.
No, he did not have a bite out of his ear, but he did have a
terribly swollen eye…
Impressive
debut by 20-year old Nicholas Lima two weeks ago.
In his first ever race, he nearly transferred out of the C
Main to the heats. Nicholas
is the son of SCRA driver Tony Lima. He will run 5 SCRA race in 2002 and then run for Rookie of
the Year in 2003. When
not around the racetrack, Nicholas plays Water Polo on his college
team at Mt. Sac or Cal Poly (sorry Nick, I forgot which one)…
