A
longtime sponsor of the racing action at The PAS and driver Rip Williams,
Vista Paint will be the “Presenting Sponsor”
of every SCRA race at The PAS in 2002.
In addition to their participation at the famous half-mile clay oval,
Vista Paint sponsors the Late Model division at the nearby Irwindale
Speedway...
When visiting The PAS
in
2002, be sure to check out the brand new sports bar in the old North
souvenir stand.
It features a big screen TV
with a live feed of the all the racing action...
Fans at Perris Auto Speedway are very fortunate!
Why you ask?
Much has been made of 2001 SCRA Champion Cory Kruseman getting a
full-time ride in the USAC Silver
Bullet Series.
When USAC released that schedule, of the nine races presently
slated, only one clashes with
an SCRA date at The PAS!
The fans are lucky, but I bet a bunch of owners and drivers do not
feel the same
way.
However, they may get a break as well as Kruseman took his IRL
Driver’s Test for PDM racing at Las
Vegas Motor Speedway on February 11th and he will be driving in
some Sprint Car races in the Midwest as well.
Kruseman commuted back and forth on a regular basis a few years
back running USAC Midget and Sprint
Car races…
Speaking of Kruseman, the Harlan Willis owned team was voted as the
number one Non Wing
Sprint Car Team for 2001 in a poll conducted by the National Sprint Car
Hall of Fame.
Kruseman’s crew chief,
Mike Nigh, was voted SCRA Mechanic of The Year…
Best looking Christmas ornament in Chino,
California
was a Sprint Car covered with tin foil and Christmas lights and placed on
a crew chief’s front lawn…
This
one was depressing.
Troy Rutherford had a brilliant season in 2001 and finished third
in SCRA points.
At the
SCRA Banquet in Las Vegas, he was named Most Improved Driver.
However, in mid-January it was revealed
that he was looking for a ride.
Gardner Motorsports, Rutherford’s car owner, announced they would
not
be running this year unless they found a sponsor.
However, less than two weeks later Rutherford was back in
the Gardner car and was a teammate to 1998 and 2000 USAC National Champion
Tony Elliott at the PAS/SCRA
opener presented by Vista Paint…

Hank Winter was one of the nicest guys around SCRA the past three
years, but he
had more bad luck than any driver.
That black cloud continues to dog him.
Last year he stated he was quitting
Sprint Cars to run Late Models in his hometown of Tucson.
Now the Tucson facility is now in danger of closing…
The SCRA Sprint Cars, presented by Vista Paint, will be back at The
PAS on March 2nd for their first
night race of 2002.
Please note, the spectator gates will open at 4:00 PM and the
racing will begin at 6:30 PM.
This will help fans get home a little earlier and will the track
from bumping into the curfew…
USAC’s new
Ford
Focus Midget Series will make stops at The PAS April 13th, July
13th and August 10th.
Applause to USAC
on this new series that allows a lower budget form of open wheel racing…
For the entire year of 2002,
there
will only be a full moon on two Saturday nights.
One of them is on April 27th when SCRA visits The PAS.
The other will be on September 21st when Gene Romero’s
West Coast Flat Track Series pays a visit… Speaking
of the West Coast Flat Track Series, it will also at The PAS on June 29th
for track’s first ever TT Race…
