Born in Bellflower and raised in Garden Grove, Jason was
another kid who grew up at Ascot. So,
it was only natural that he would aspire to race sprint cars.
Jason’s Dad, John, worked with Bob Evans and also helped Jason’s
stepbrother, Dwayne Marcum as a 1987 midget rookie.
Jason lived near Sleepy Tripp and gained technical
knowledge, while hanging around and helping out on Tripp’s midget.
Yount also spent some time helping out Bob Marcus and Ed Croteau with
their midgets.
Jason made his driving debut in 1996 at Bakersfield
wheeling a USAC midget to third place in the Semi.
In 1998, Jason ran six midget shows for Sam Horton and added about four
more outings in 1999. 2000, found
Yount stepping up and buying a Bandit sprint car, racing it in nine shows and
finishing ninth in points. The
following year, Jason was establishing himself in business and limited his
racing to only three nights. In
2002, Yount returned to action, running twenty Bandit programs in addition to
the SCRA opening day show at Perris. Jason’s
goal is to become a regular competitor with SCRA.
Jason is no stranger to competition, as he lettered for
three years in each of four sports, Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track at
Rancho Alamitos High School in Garden Grove.
Drafted by the Seattle Mariners, Yount declined to attend Golden West
J.C. in Huntington Beach, majoring in Criminal Justice, looking toward a career
in law enforcement.
While at a race in November of 1997 at Bakersfield, Jason
met a young lady who caught his fancy. She
was the cousin of sprint driver, Tommy Tarlton and a high school classmate of
sprint driver, Jeff Gardner. They
began dating with Jason commuting each weekend to Fresno, until he finally
relocated in July of 1998. Jason
and Lesa were married in September of 1999.
They now have a 2½-year-old daughter, Peyton, with another expected
arrival due in July. In addition to being a wife and mommy, Lesa is a fifth grade
school teacher. Jason works as a
Financial Adviser for a firm called Financial Achievement in Fresno.
Away from work and racing, twenty-nine year old Jason plays golf and
enjoys sharing time with his daughter.
Yount’s equipment is currently a Stinger Chassis fitted
with a 360 c.i. engine built by Richard Harvey Sr.
His crew consists of his Dad, John, Mike and Ryan Lindner, who live in
Garden Grove and Darrin Johnson. Sponsorship
comes from J&M Drywall, Financial Achievement, Stinger Chassis, Pro Signs,
MJB Products, Revcon (for shocks), J.P. Scheidt, Inc., Simpson Racing Products
and scrafan.com.
Jason named Bakersfield and Perris as his favorite
tracks and mentioned names of Sleepy Tripp, Rickie Gaunt, J.J. Yeley, Lealand
McSpadden and Ron Shuman as his racing heroes.
Special recognition goes to his Dad, for all the years of support and
help, along with the Harvey family and Stinger Chassis, who have been there when
he needed help and encouragement. Jason
also would like to give thanks to Brian & Kris Kittle, Jeff Gardner and
Dickie Stevens, as racers who have come to his aid.
Look for Yount at selected SCRA events in 2003 and doing the full
schedule if funding becomes available.
