Unwinged 360 Sprint Cars

San Felipe Pueblo, NM....Sept 20......Taking the lead on lap 15 when pacesetter Jared Scutt bobbled in turn 4, Bo Baker from Grants NM wheeled his Jackson Equipment mount to a win in 20 lap NMMRA unwinged sprint car feature at Hollywood Hills Speedway Saturday night. The win moved Baker back into the series point lead with just two point races remaining as incoming point leader Steve Nix crashed on lap 2. Baker is just one point ahead of Nix with a Sept 27 Duke City Raceway date and the Oct 4th season finale at Hollywood Hills remaining. Scutt salvaged a second and thid ranked Kelly Denison ran third. The hobby stocks provided the support class, but only four cars appeared and Randy Carter was the feature winner.

          The sprint cars broke 18 cars, but a two dash format ended up sidelining five cars before the 20 lap feature was run. The night started with the Leavitt Group Dash for Cash and Chris Faber won ahead of Russell Gossett. Ron King and J C Powell Jr crashed in this dash and were done for the night. The J & R Machine Dash for Cash saw Kristy Smith and Jon Taylor tangle on the final lap with both drivers flipping to end their evenings. Rookie of the Year hopeful Jeff Brumfield Jr had broken in hot laps, but Joe Larkin Jr loaned up his car for the heat and feature action. Scutt beat Smith and Thomas Murray in heat 1 with Taylor taking heat 2 ahead of Gossett. Tom Ball and Nix ran 1-2 in heat 3. Baker ran last in his heat race, but was in the right spot to take the lead in the 20 lap feature when Scutt got out of shape in turn 4 on lap 15. Baker took the Larry Higginbottom checkered flag ahead of Scutt, Denison, Faber, Gossett, Brumfield Jr and David Burns. Baker ended the night one point ahead of Nix and 30 ahead of Dennison. Ball is 18 points back of Denison and just 14 ahead of Faber.
