Unwinged Sprint Cars, Midgets, Mini Sprints,
IMCA Modifieds, Dwarf Cars and Bombers

Phoenix, AZ....July 25-26......Jeremy Sherman enjoyed a very rare double feature win night as he raced to victories in the unwinged ASCA 360 sprint car main event after earlier capturing the AMRA midget main event on Saturday night at Manzanita Speedway. Joey Moriarity and Justin Fisher chased Sherman to the sprint car triumph while Robert Ellis and Adam Young ran 2-3 in the midget feature. The Saturday night action was rounded out by a big field of AMSRA mini sprints with Tony Osuch taking feature honors ahead of Jeff Greszler and Judd Hathaway. The IMCA Modifieds headlined the Friday night card and Robert King Jr beat Canyon point leader Joe Warner in that main event. Terry Belcher Jr crossed the line third, but was dropped to 12th in the rundown when they took away all the laps that he ran after entering the pits in an illegal manner during the race. Travis Seals was the surprise winner of the dwarf car main event ahead of Sandy Matthews and Art Garcia. The bombers were the final division on Friday night and Charles Kimbrell scored a sweep with wins in his heat and the feature as James Patau ran second ahead of heat winner Sheila McCurdy.

The ASCA sprint cars split a 28 car turnout into four heat races on Saturday night. Davey Bateman beat R J Johnson in the dash. Fisher beat young R J Johnson in heat 1 and Josh Pelkey won heat 2 over Travis Cooley. J Sherman outraced Brian Hacker in heat 3 and Lonnie Sherman won heat 4 ahead of Bugs Norbury and Paul Norbury. 16 cars advanced from the four heat races and four more came from a 12 car B Main. Eric Wilkins won the B Main ahead of Jimmy Norman, Mike Miller, Sean Hendricksen and Shon Deskins. J Sherman was the feature winner as Moriarity ran second ahead of Fisher, Wilkins, Ricky Johnson, Hacker, R J Johnson, Jeff Henry, P Norbury and Norman. Twelve midgets were divided into two heat races. J Sherman won the dash ahead of Young and Terry Palmer. The only race that J Sherman participated in on Saturday and didn't win was his midget heat where he ran second to Cole Houser. R J Johnson beat David Birmingham Jr in the second heat. In the feature, it was J Sherman winning ahead of R Ellis, Young, R J Johnson, David Rosales, Justin Fisher, Birmingham Jr and Amy Maris. The mini sprints split 26 cars into three heat races. Trey Deane outraced Henry and Tim Ogle in the dash. Henry beat Osuch in heat 1 and Greszler won heat 2 over Don Keesler. Dennis Parks outraced Deane and Tim Ogle in heat 3. Dave Alexander won the B Main ahead of Scott Passmore, Mark Stroh and Dustin Carmony. The main event had 20 starters with Osuch winning ahead of Greszler, Hathaway, Henry, Charles Mokry, Thomas Ogle, Carmony, Parks, D Alexander and Stroh.

Friday night saw 22 IMCA Modifieds in action. King Jr had a perfect night as he won heat 1 over Tom Wyman and Ricky Thornton. Warner won heat 2 over Belcher Jr and Robin Boomgaarden. The third heat went to Terry Belcher Sr ahead of CAR spring season champion R C Whitwell and Anthony Madrid. King and Warner ran 1-2 in the feature race. Belcher Jr crossed the line third ahead of John Cornell and Ricky  Thornton, but both Belcher Jr and Thornton had laps removed from their tally for entering the pits in an illegal direction during midrace stops. that moved Ron Funk up to fourth ahead of Madrid, Steve Bender, Boomgaarden, Brian Spindleman and Jim MacNeil. Belcher Jr was dropped to 12th and Thornton 19th as CAR street stock champion Art Lacy made his IMCA Modified debut in the former Rick Ward car with a 14th place run. The dwarf cars split 21 cars into three heats and elected to race everyone in the main event. Matthews had a big night with a dash win over Chris Snyder, a heat triumph and a second behind Seals in the main event. John Priest beat Snyder in heat 1 and Matthews won heat 2 over Casey Cain. Roger Dvorak won heat 3 with Art Garcia second. Seals and Matthews were 1-2 in the main event ahead of Garcia, Cain, Tim Jones, Kevin Stalbaum, Greg Loper and Nick Escobedo. There were 11 bombers and 10 raced in the main event. Kimbrell won heat 1 over Howard Powell Jr and McCurdy was chased to her heat two win by Manzanita web site operater Brad Hallin and Frank Lacy.
