IMCA Modifieds and Wingless Sprint Cars

Victorville, CA....May 16......Veteran racer Bob Forster Jr drove to victory in the IMCA Modified main event as the Route 66 Raceway competitors competed during the annual County Fair on Friday night. It was a main event only format and the track point leaders were placed at the front of the grid ahead of the visiting cars with a 21 car field racing. The point leader entering the show, Forster won the 20 lap feature from the pole with third starter Steve Smith second ahead of outside front row starter Wayne Francis. The wingless 360 sprint car action found 8 cars racing and John Aden checked out from the field for the win ahead of former Ventura champion Kevin Kierce and Will Perkins.

Visitors in the 21 car IMCA Modified turnout included California State point leader Bill Saltzman from Merced, Ventura racer Joe Porche and 2002 Western Region champion Mark Allison from Las Vegas, NV. The track point standings set the front of the grid for the 20 lapper with Forster and Francis on the front row ahead of Smith, Joe Blackmore, Billy Wormsbecker and Eddie Drost. Allison lined up 16th and Saltzman came from 21st. Forster won the main event from the pole with third starter Smith getting around Francis to finish second. Francis ran third and Allison's hard charge forward netted him a 4th ahead of Kevin Hocking, Wormsbecker, Dale Underwood, Brandon Bennett, Jeff Watson, David Lord and Jay Ownbey. Defending track champion Jimmy Barttelt was 12th, then flipped the following night in Perris. Porche was 15th, Saltzman 16th and Perris stock car star Henry Wesolowski Sr ran 18th.

The water truck made a run around the 1/4 mile clay oval just prior to the wingless 360 sprint car feature. The field fought traction issues for several laps before the track dried out. Aden took a quick lead over Kierce and Perkins. Keith Williamson charged from the rear into fourth. Perkins drove through a spin, recovering just in front of Williamson. In their duel for third, Perkins went low and Williamson high to pass a lapped car. Williamson made contct with the turn 2 fence and dropped back. On the final lap, winner Aden was ready to lap fourth place Williamson as Kierce ran second ahead of Perkins. Richard Terry finished fifth.

On Sunday night, the fair concluded with a very successful destruction derby. Five throusand fans filled the grandstands and 14 cars competed for the $5,325 purse. Robert Kirby from Oklahoma was the $2,000 winner with former Pearsonville racer David Hazelwood an $800 second. Riverside's Kyle Jossart won $450 for third and Fresno's Joshua Mills was a $350 fourth. Milt Eisenhauer from Yucca Valley was a $300 fifth.
