Lake Pleasant, AZ.....June 22......Battling
forward from 8th starting, Bob Ream Jr won the 25 lap ASCA Unwinged 360 sprint
car feature at Canyon Raceway Saturday night. The marathon race took over an
hour to compete and Ream paced the final half of the race for his second
straight win at the 3/8 mile clay oval. Josh Pelkey came from 7th starting to
place second while Eric Wilkins came from 11th starting to finish third as a 23
car field raced. The Kenz and Leslie BG Midget Series brought 11 cars to the
track and Steve Sussex Jr was a wire to wire winner in their 25 lapper with
teammate Adam Young second at the checkered flag.
Fred Bryan won the
dash for the sprint cars while heat race wins were posted by Davey Bateman,
Wilkins and versatile Terry Belcher Jr. Bobby Marcum won the B Main.
Jason Sutphen led the first lap of their 25 lap feature, but the lap ended up
having four caution flags and a red. The red came when John Gaston got onto his
side. Chuck Buckman gained the lead on lap 2 when Sutphen spun. Another red flag
fell on lap 7 when Marty Miller's car developed a fuel leak and burst into
flames. Bateman raced into the lead, but ran off the top of the track on lap 12
and Ream paced the remaining laps for the win with Pelkey second over Wilkins,
Belcher Jr, Ricky Johnson, Bateman, Bryan and B Main transfers Paul Norbury,
Jeff Henry and Mike Martin from Yuma.
David Birmingham Jr was
the dash winner for the midgets. Heat wins went to Justin Fisher and Young. In
the main event, Sussex grabbed the lead on the start. Doug Elliott spun for a
lap 4 yellow. Young was a race long second and R J Johnson ran third over Mike
Welker and Fisher.
