Ventura, CA...May 4.......Wiley
Miller improved his division point lead by winning for the third time in the
five 2002 events held to date as the Ventura Raceway Senior Sprint Car class was
showcased Saturday night by being combined with a SCRA unwinged 410 sprint car
show at the lightning quick 1/4 mile clay oval. Jim Porter finished second and
second ranked point racer Ron Bach ran fourth behind Mike Cook. Bach is a former
CDCRA dwarf car standout and he had a two race winning streak snapped by the
Miller victory.
The Senior Sprint Car class at
Ventura runs the same unwinged 360 sprint cars as the regular division there and
they had 21 cars on hand this week. Miller and Bach both drew starting spots in
the first heat. Miller posted that win from third starting with John Woodward
second over Preiss Movius. Bach debuted a new TCR built car and spun running 2nd
on the last lap of the heat, relegating him to a back of the pack start in the
feature. Like Miller, Porter came from third starting to win heat 2 over Oren
Prosser Sr and Dayle Henry. Cook won the third heat from the pole with third
starting Ron Butler second. Tim Moon nipped the front wall in heat 1. The
leading IMCA Modified feature winner in track history, Steve Greenland, picked
up a ride in Jimmy Crawford's car and he flipped onto his side in the first
heat. In heat 2, Eddie Wirth got sideways and collected John Richards.
The inversion pill for the main event
came up zero, putting Porter and Cook on the front row with Miller starting 4th.
Miller won that race with Porter second ahead of Cook, a fast closing Bach,
Henry, Richard Terry, John Woodward, Prosser Sr and Sam Vail. Miller holds a 470
point lead over Bach and is 660 points ahead of Porter.
In order to help beat curfew,
Ventura Raceway is moving to a 6 PM start with their Saturday night shows
starting on May 11.
