Ventura, CA -August 28, 1999-- After his duel with
Randy Moody ended when Moody flipped several times on the back stretch
on lap 27, John Wright from Ventura won the 30 lap IMCA Sprint Car
main event at Ventura Raceway Saturday night. It was the first racing
at the track since the County Fair in early August. Despite breaking a
motor on the final lap, Steve Greenland captured the 20 lap IMCA
Modified main event. Marty Desbrow ran away with the I-4 Modified main
and fellow Ventura resident Bryan Weaver won his first ever Pony Stock
          main.
The IMCA sprint cars had another strong 23 car field and their 30
lap main was slowed by five yellow flags prior to the lap 27 red flag.
R Moody had been challenging Wright for the top spot when he flipped
several times. He had to be transported to the hospital for
observation and his car was badly damaged. Wright won ahead of current
point leader Kevin Kierce and defending track champion Kenny White.
Greg Taylor, Ronnie Case, Bill Welch, Chris Wakim and Clark Templeman
III rounded out the top 8.
The IMCA Modifieds had a 16 car field and all started their 20 lap
main. Greenland won despite losing oil pressure on the final lap.
Defending track champion Randy McGraw ran second and moved into second
in points. Point leader Donald Houghton was third and stands 11 points
ahead of McGraw. Former champion John Aitken entered the night second
in points, but ran 12th in the main. Bill Waltman finished fourth
ahead of Mike Furlong, Rich Wolfe, fair race winner Chris Tonoli,
Kathy Pierson and Gary Curtis. Pony stock racer Mark Fullerton made
his IMCA Modified debut at Ventura with a 14th. Jamie Taylor finished
top 4, but was disqualified in tech for an illegal brake proportioning
          valve.
Desbrow took the lead on lap 5 of the I-4 Modified main and won
with George Kreider second ahead of Brian Rader. Weaver came out on
top of the pony stock main with Frank Woodward second ahead of Ray
          Martinez.
