 A Christmas Wish - 2001

It was kinda awesome all over again as I approached him. It had been decades since saw him the first time in his red outfit. He still looked good in it, he hadn’t aged a bit. I waited until the kids were gone. I felt kinda silly, but he motioned to come on up. If I wanted, he’d even let me sit on his lap. Santa had a way about him that made people comfortable. He said that I looked way too serious for the occasion. He wanted to know what was troubling me. And so it just sort of tumbled out of my mouth. I was hoping that I could ask for something special for Christmas.

He let go with a gentle “Ho Ho Ho”, and said “ I’ll certainly give it a try, what would like to have”.

“Well it’s not really just for me. It’s for a lotta people that watch the sprint cars at Perris Auto Speedway. We would like to see George Gervais back in the pits where he belongs.” I blurted out.

Santa paused for a moment, then asked “This George Gervais, why doesn’t he just buy a pit pass?”

“Well sir, Santa, sir, he was hurt real bad in a racing accident and now he’s in a hospital in a coma. He doesn’t belong in a sterile place like that, he needs to be playing in the dirt again”

Santa gave me a wink and a smile, and said "Don't you worry about a thing. I'll put in a good word with the big guy. Things will turn out just fine, I promise you this."
I shook Santa's hand, and looked in his twinkling eyes, and was reassured that Santa would make good on his promise.

"Thank you Santa" I yelled, as Santa mounted his mighty Sleigh, "Have a very Merry Christmas."

"Big" George Gervais

With a jolly "Ho Ho Ho", Santa, his reindeer, and his sleigh full of presents then disappeared into the night.

After Santa finished delivering all of his presents Santa and his mighty reindeer made a couple laps around Perris Auto Speedway.

His best time was a 15.895, which beats Super Rickie's record run. Santa's sleigh somehow looked different. It wasn't it's usual fire engine red color. It was white, with green flames, and a big number 9 painted on the side.
