-Typical Race Format (Subject
To Change depending on venue, car count, and other circumstances)
For SCRA shows, the
top 32 in qualifying go directly to the heat races, with the faster guys in the back of each heat. The fast qualifier
will be in the back of heat 1. The second fastest will be in the back of heat 2 and so on for the 4 heat races.
SCRA has had huge car
counts at the PAS and that has made it necessary to have D & C Mains. The D & C Mains are designed to
give racers more laps and chances of transferring on to the heats.
D-Main
The D Main is a 6 Lap Race. The top 2 transfer to the back of
the C-Main. The rest would be done for the night.
C-Main
The C-Main is an 8 Lap Race. The top 4 transfer to the heat races and the winner will be at the back of Heat 1. He has just enough time
to
refuel and then he is back on the track for Heat 1. The second place car
will be at the back of Heat 2- and so on for the 3rd & 4th place cars.
If
cars do not finish in the top 4 in the C-Main, they are done for the
night.
Heat Races
In the Heat Races, which are 10 Laps, the top 4 transfer to the
A-Main. With 4 heats and 4 transferring, this means that 16 cars are in
"The
Show" with 4-6 remaining slots (depends on the venue). For those that do not transfer out of
the
heats (5th place and worse) they will go to the "Last Chance
Race"- the
B-Main.
Passing Masters Dash
The Passing Masters Dash
is a 6 lap event with the top 8 cars in
qualifying that transferred out of their heats. The finish of this race
determines the starting order of the A-Main. The winner will start on the
pole, second place will start on the outside front row and so on.
If the fast qualifier for the night,
failed
to transfer (did not finish in top 4 in his heat race). He would have to make the
A-Main by transferring out of the B-Main "Last Chance" race. If
he can
transfer out of the B-Main, the best he could start is 9th.
B-Main
The B-Main is
a 12-lap event with the remaining cars that did not
transfer from the heats. The top 4-6 (depends on the venue) will move on to the A-Main and the rest
are done for the night. In this event, the fastest qualifiers are in the
front.
A-Main
The A-Main is "The Show." It is the race that pays and the Main
Event of the evening. The races are typically 30-50 laps with 20-22 cars
(depends on the venue.) On any given night with SCRA, any car is capable
of winning.
