2000 Season Notes

- "The Gasman" Richard Griffin won his 3rd straight
championship, driving Ron Chaffin's #50 Jon Boy. Griffin won 9
features, had 36 top five finishes, posted 10 fast times, won 10
dashes, and scored 12 heat race wins.
- "The Ripper" Rip Williams became the first driver to
reach 50 SCRA wins. The victory came at Perris Auto Speedway on
September 9th.
- Richard Griffin is the NWWC Champion.
- Jarrett Chaney is named Rookie of the Year.
- "Super" Rickie Gaunt won 5 main events and posted 7
fast times.
- Mike Kirby won 6 features and posted 18 top five finishes.
- Cory Kruseman won 6 main events, keeping his streak of 5 wins a
season since 1995 alive. Among his wins were the Jack Kindoll
Classic and Firecraker 50.
- Jeremy Sherman won 2 main events, both coming at Manzanita in
Bill & Lida Lloyd's #41 Ellis.
- Mike English won at Perris on March 11th in Mark Priestley's #10
Stinger.
- "Hollywood" John Scott won 2 featutes, coming at
Wichita's 81 Speedway and Santa Maria.
- USAC regular Jay Drake dominated the Midwest/NWWC Tour. Driving
Keith Kunz' #67 Stealth, he won 5 races, including the $17,000
Terre Haute Open.
- Tony Elliott won at Lakeside Speedway on June 20th in Jeff
Walker's #66 Stealth.
- Marc Hart won his 2nd Wagsdash at Ventura in his #15 TCR.
- Troy Rutherford won an exhibition race at San Diego County's
Barona Speedway.
- Tony Jones won 4 features, including the $25,000 Oval Nationals
in Gene Cowherd's #48.
- Jay Drake won the Western World Championship.
- Troy Cline won the season ending $20,000 Charity Challenge at
Manzanita.
- Rusty McClure was injured in an early season USAC event at
Eldora. The racing community helped his recovery efforts.
- 216 drivers competed with SCRA.
