- 119 different drivers raced with SCRA in 1996.
- "The Flying Shoe" Ron Shuman won his second SCRA
Championship in 3 years. He also recorded 1 win and 9 Fast Times.
- Ron Chaffin won the Car Owner's Championship by one point over
Ship Shuck.
- Billy Boat won the Season Opener at Manzanita in John Lawson's
#15 Stealth. Boat started 15th.
- "The Gasman" Richard Griffin tied Ron Shuman
with 23 top 5 finishes.
- "The Ripper" Rip Williams won 12 Main Events and led
253 laps in the process.
- Cory Kruseman won 5 Main Events.
- J.J. Yeley scored 6 Passing Masters Dash Wins.
- "The Shermanator" Jeremy Sherman won Rookie of the
Year Honors.
- Perris Auto Speedway, SCRA's new home track, held it's first
event on March 30th. J.J. Yeley won in Jack Yeley's #7 Jack Rich
design. Mike Kirby won the next Perris event on April 13th.
- Richard Griffin won his 1st SCRA feature for Ron Chaffin on June
15th at Santa Maria Speedway.
- Cory Kruseman won his 1st Ventura Main Event on August 16th.
- Rodney Argo scored his 1st win, coming at Perris on September
14th. SCRA President Glenn Howard "collected on a bet"
and cut off Argo's "Pony Tail."
- Jimmy Sills won the 1st PAS Oval Nationals on October 19th,
driving Don Berry's #7X.
- Jeremy Sherman won the October 26th event at Ventura
Raceway. He was the second "Rookie" in SCRA to win a
main event.
- Veteran "Winged" Driver Lee Brewer Jr. won at Perris
on November 9th for Gene Cowherd. He backed it up with a JFK
"Dash for Cash" win the following week at Bakersfield.
- Mike English won the annual Wagsdash at Bakersfield in Mark
Alexander's #89 Gambler on November 15th.
- Richard Griffin won Bakersfield's Quaker State Classic on
November 16th as well as Manzanita's "Western Autumn
Classic" on October 5th.
