Nathan High Wins Midget Show Again at Hollywood Hills Speedway
9-2-2007
Bob & Karen Ingram
San Felipe Pueblo, New Mexico. A perfect night for racing saw the first and only all open wheel racing show at Hollywood Hills Speedway tonight. Tonights show had Mini-Sprints, Midgets and Non-Winged Sprints all on the same card. The track was in excellent condition and all three classes put on some VERY exciting races. There was one very tense moment as the #36 Midget of Laveen, Arizonas 15 year old Brendan Higgins who had won last nights main event get tangled with several cars on the first lap and take several very hard rollovers, actually going over the top of the also rolling #2 of Arvada Colorados Bobby Harr. Fortunately both Higgins and Harr were able to walk away from the crash without injury. However both very fast and competitive cars were done for the night. The #2X of Denver, Colorado driver Luke Icke led most of the main event but was passed in the closing stages by the #21A of Phoenix, Arizonas Nathan High. Icke had also led a large portion of last nights main event before finally settling for 2nd behind Higgins. In the winners circle, Icke and High had some heated words before Icke left the track without doing the customary interview with track promoter Bobby Seals.
The Non-Winged Sprints also had some fantastic racing with the #45X of Johnny Herrera, who had won the Winged Sprint show in Show Low Arizona last night taking a hard fought victory over the #9X of Kelly Denison with current points leader #61X Bo Baker taking home the 3rd position. Herrera started in the 11th starting spot and took most of the race to get by the very strong running cars of Denison, Baker, Jon Taylor & Scott Box who filled out the top 5 positions.
The Mini-Sprints had a shorter field of cars than usual as they dont normally run 2 days in a row and had some attrition after a very tough night of competition last night. The Main Event once again saw an extremely close battle between two of the hottest drivers in this division with the #17 of Pagosa Springs, Colorados D.J. Snyder and Albuquerques #19X of Jordan Mattson. These 2 drivers along with the missing #74X of Joshua ( The Jet ) Hodges have waged battle all year long with Hodges winning most of the races with either Snyder or Mattson close on his heels. Tonight Mattson was not to be denied as he took a very close win over Snyder with last nights winner, Phoenix, Arizonas #47 Brandon Shelton coming home in the 3rd position. Also in the hunt was the #72 of Mike Brewer making his first start of the year keeping the leaders in sight and finishing in the 4th spot with the #7H of Jerry Higginbotham nipping at Brewers heels at the finish line to take home the 5th place position.
Thanks to all of the great Drivers, Crews, Sponsors, Staff and FANS for coming out to Hollywood Hills Speedway and supporting Dirt Track Racing in New Mexico.
Have A Great Day
God Bless Everybody
