Steve Irwin wraps up MTS Championship with a win at Owendale
20 non-wing sprinters signed in for a fun night of racing at the Owendale Speedway.
After the track worked in the wet surface the fans saw an exciting 3 heat races with Steve Irwin taking heat 1, Tim Champlin winning heat 2 and Tim Lowe taking the 3rd. Mike Elliot took a hard ride down the backstretch in heat 2 when he jumped Tank Brakenberry's wheel and flipped over a couple times. Mike was uninjured but was taken to the hospital for further analysis.
In the A- Main Mike Astrauskas took an early lead after a restart caused by an altercation with Brakenberry and the #7 of Justin Martin. Astrauskas would only be able to hold of a charging Steve Irwin for a few laps as Irwin took the lead and never looked back. For the rest of the feature the race would be for 2nd on back as the sprinters diced back and forth on the rough track. Mike Astrauskas held 2nd with Mike Galajda charging to3rd on the last lap edging out Tim Lowe. Jim Heeny would round out the top 5.
