Amador Adds Dirt Win to Championship Quest
NCMA Sprints | Kings Speedway | Hanford, CA | June 23, 2007
Ed Amador, Modesto’s Racing Farmer, made the dirt track at Hanford look as smooth as pavement as he held the lead for the entire Main Event this evening. Rob Hammond gave him a run for it several times but just couldn’t quite hold the position. This was a repeat from the heat race as Hammond even had a spin out in his quest for the lead. By the time they made it to the main, Hammond wasn’t having any spin out problems and just egged Amador into the lead further. New comer, TJ Smith in his very first sprint car race, did a great job for a Rookie. Smith is coming out of Sprint 100’s where he has made quite a name in his young career. This 16 year old handled himself like he knew exactly what he was doing and he obviously did as he got up beside Hammond and challenged him for second more than once. He got up on the rim and lost it in the heat, but he’s a quick learner because he didn’t make the same mistake in the main. He seemed to be able to run it high or run it low didn’t matter he held on for a great third place finish. Doug Gandy Jr. in his second full season, had a personal best race as he finish the main in fourth.
NCMA Sprints will have a week free to spend with family and friends before they return to Madera Speedway to make up a spring rain date. Gary Koster, who is concentrating on pavement only this season, while wife Jeanette recovers from recent surgery, is in the number one seat. Ed Amador is only six points behind him. Last year’s co-champion, Jimmy Lavell is in third with only six points between him and Amador. Fourth place is currently being held by Jeff Burrows, and Rob Hammond is only five points behind Burrows to round out the top five.
