Commentary By Heather Riffel
(June 8, 2006-Brandon, SD) The second
night of the Thursday night Thriller series at Huset’s Speedway
featured even more exciting action. Mike Steensma was a first time
winner in the B-Modifieds while Brett Mellenberndt picked up his first
win in a Wingless Sprint. Jim Klutman was also a first time winner in
Factory Stocks. Other winners were Chris Bornitz, Troy Schreurs, and
Steve Eliason.
The Heartland Racing Association
Wingless Sprint Car feature got off to a wild start when Bill Smith
flipped his car on the frontstretch immediately after taking the green
flag. He was able to walk away from the accident but the car would not
be able to continue on. Dana Buttemeier took the lead on the opening
lap by getting around Andy Anderson. Coming quickly to the front was
Brett Mellenberndt. He got by Dusty Ballenger for third on the second
lap. By lap four he had passed Anderson for second and on lap five he
got around Buttemeier for the lead. He was able to dominate the rest
of the race. He was followed by Buttemeier, Anderson, Ballenger, and
Jeff Davis.
