-------------------------------------
The first non-wing spec sprint car race of the year at Chico started
with 20 cars going 20 laps. Rick Eversult took the early lead. On lap
three Ryan McDaniel and Mark Orth tangled and spun off turn one.
Eversult continued to lead until lap eight when Doug Brewer took over
the top spot. Behind him the two drivers on the move were Darrell
Hanestad, started 11th, and Tony Richards, started 10th. Soon it was
Hanestad going for the lead but on lap 15 he was given the black flag
for being too loud. He continued to race and ultimately passed Brewer
for the lead and what seemed to be the win. However, Brewer was still
the leader because Hanestad had been disqualified. Eversult finished
second followed by Richards and David Goodwill. Jay Youngman and Jim
Perry rounded out the top six. It was a very entertaining and
competitive main event. A total of 27 spec sprints showed up. Jimmy
Steward of Applegate won the 12-lap B main event for the spec sprints.
