Clear skies hold out till race is completed
Following a rained-out event on April 23rd, promoter Paul Turner
took the threat of rain last Saturday night seriously, and he ran the
program quickly, asking drivers to cooperate so the event could be
successfully completed. Ten minutes after the last checkered
flag was unfurled for the Pure Stock race, the skies opened up and
drenched fans who were walking to their cars. But the
second race of the 2005 season was in the books.
The Sprint main event was plagued with six
yellow flags as some of the newer drivers became accustomed to running
on the 1/5 mile oval surface. Rookie Greg Higginbotham went over
the berm and ended up next to the fence, causing a red flag.
Greg was uninjured and was able to return to racing, finishing in the
fifth spot. Defending champion Tony Richards garnered his second
win of the season, followed closely by Ed Butterfield and Adam Schroer
who waged a good battle for the second spot. Doug Butterfield,
another rookie for the division and a former track champ in the Mini
Trucks, finished in fourth.
