Chico's Tony Richards held off a fast track of cars to
take the season opener's Wix Filter's Sprint Car Challenge. Chris
Webber, 2003 Rookie of the Year, was the Wix Filter Trophy Dash victor
for the evening.
Track champion Adam Schroer returned to his comfort
zone in the #29 Mini Modified to take the main event win for the
night. Schroer will field a Sprint car (also #29) in the
next week or two, and should be a serious competitor in that division.
The MiniMod trophy dash was won by Mario Romano, who is now fielding
his #16 Mini Mod, in addition to driving the #0d Mini Truck which has
earned him three track championships.
Ken Lewis was victorious in the Mini Stock division's
main event. Lewis is driving under circumstances which
would keep most folks at home; He has Hodgkin's Lymphoma and is
undergoing treatment. His Doctor's have approved his
weekend love of motorsports, stating that "anything Ken loves as
much as racing has to be good for him!" Kevin
Pendergrass took home the trophy for the Mini Stocks.
In the Pure Stock division, Marysville's Phil Shelby
garnered his first main event win in his #63 machine. The Shelby
family have a love for racing which brings their children into the
sport, all soon to be drivers in their own right.
Mario Romano took to the seat of the #0d Mini Truck
and felt right at home, passing a very competitive field to take the
main event win. Nathan Skaggs felt equally competitive in
his #49 truck, taking home the trophy for the truck's dash victory.
Terri Dinsmore stood out from the crowd in her Hornet car for another
fun victory and yet another trophy for her mantle.
Racing will return to Orland next Saturday with competition in all
divisions. For rules or schedules, contact the track office;
