JUNE 22, 2009 --- JoJo Helberg of Rohnert Park, Calif. has a five-point lead over Tanner Swanson in the latest USAC Western Sprint Car Series standings as he continues his quest for a second straight USAC Sprint car title after winning last year's "Rocky Mountain" championship.
Helberg will try to protect that lead Saturday when the series visits All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif. for a USAC "doubleheader" with the California Paved Ford Focus Midgets.
Helberg won this year's opener at Madera, Calif. and has finished third twice at Roseville. Each time a Swanson won the feature!
Tanner won the April race at Roseville, while Kody Swanson took the May race there. Kody is fourth in the current series points, only 13 out of the lead. Brian McClish, who has a second, third and a fourth so far in three series races, is third in points, only six behind the leader. The quartet of drivers form the closest battle for a USAC championship this season.
Since 74 points are available Saturday, a half-dozen drivers are mathematically in the hunt for the point lead, including fifth-ranking Eric Humphries and sixth-ranking Nick Green.
