ALL COAST CONSTRUCTION CHALLENGE NEXT AT VENTURA
by Lee Elder
VENTURA, Calif. (May 25, 2009) – The Merriam Webster online dictionary defines a mini series as: “(noun) a television production of a story presented in sequential episodes.”

At Ventura Raceway, a mini series is defined a little simpler: Three sprint car races sponsored by All Coast Construction. Boiled down to its basics, it’s the Roar by the Shore, a special event that draws a larger field of cars and a bigger crowd in the grandstands.

The three-race 2009 All Coast Construction Challenge begins at Ventura Saturday, May 30. The Sprint Car class will share the track with the Senior Sprints, the Dwarf Cars, IMCA Modifieds and the Raceway’s youth divisions. The spectator gates open at 3 p.m., practice starts at 3:30 and the traditional flag ceremony starts at 5:30.

It’s nearly impossible to pick a pre-race favorite in the special series. The Raceway has gone 10 races without a repeat winner in the Sprint Car Division, dating back to the last two races of the 2008 season. And when you realize that the extra money will draw a large field of entrants, then you understand how competitive the event will be.

The first two races in the series pay $2,000 to the winner and the third race in the series pays $5,000 to win. The second race in the series will be held July 25 and the third on Oct. 24.

The Challenge is the brainchild of All Coast Construction executive Mike Grosswendt, who wanted to give teams in the track’s Sprint Car Division a special event.

All Coast Construction specializes in high end residential construction, renovation and maintenance. More information is available at www.allcoastconstruction.com.

Raceway notes: The May 23 event attracted 100 cars. In 11 events so far this season, there have been 100 or more entrants nine times…The track has two streaks going that are complete opposites: The 10 straight sprint car races without a repeat winner and the Sport Compact Rear Wheel Drive class where Brent Underwood is undefeated with five straight wins. Underwood’s streak is on the line again on June 6.
